January 15, 1945 - December 31, 2016

David Fielding Ford, 71, of Batesville passed away from this life on December 31, 2016 in a Little Rock hospital.
David Ford was born January 15, 1945, in Batesville to Bob Ford and Dorothy Parks Ford. As a young boy and teenager he was an avid athlete excelling in baseball, basketball and football. He graduated Batesville High School in 1962. As a star quarterback he received football scholarships to attend Memphis State and Harding University where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in banking and finance. He started his 47 years in banking in Seattle, Washington and after 7 years settled back to his hometown of Batesville, Arkansas with his wife Mary Frances Williams Ford. In Batesville he began his 40 year career at The Citizens Bank.
He was well known and respected in his community and despite his rough exterior and dry sense of humor, he had a heart of gold and as a loan officer enjoyed serving and helping out his friends, family and neighbors.
He enjoyed many hobbies and excelled in all. He loved playing golf with his friends and his two sons. He also enjoyed fishing for crappie and trout with his sons and daughter. And ''Daddy Rab'' as he was affectionately known as couldn't get enough of duck hunting in his favorite spot at Rainey Brake.
He supported many charities and was a Baptist and never missed reading his bible daily.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Bobbye Ford Rutledge, brother Larry Ford and eldest daughter Kathy Ford Smith.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years Mary Frances Williams Ford; his daughter, Valerie Ford of Batesville; two sons, Tommy Ford of Batesville and David Allen Ford of Fallon, Nevada; nine grandchildren, Jeremy Smith, Lisa Smith Sellers, Taylor Ford, Courtney Cook, Amanda Ford, David Ford, Miranda Ford, Angela Duncan and Vanessa Duncan; one great-grandchild, Mattie Sellers. He is also survived by a cherished family friend Derek Sellers and by his beloved cat Lucy.
