of Little Rock, AR
March 16, 1930 - December 24, 2016
Billy Joe ''Granddad'' Lawson of Little Rock left this Earth December 24, 2016 to meet his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and to be reunited with his wife of 63 years, Bonnie ''Memaw'' Colbert Lawson.
Billy Joe was preceded in death by his father, Sid Lawson; mother, Myrtle Lawson; and sister, Nelda Jean Morris. He is survived by his daughter, Debbie Whitworth, and favorite son-in-law Terry Whitworth of Morrilton; son Billy Steven Lawson and wife Mona of North Little Rock; son Chuck Lawson and wife Tammy of Bryant; son Tim Lawson and wife Eileen Lawson of Little Rock; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and special friends, Joey Benardi and Pam Williams.
Billy Joe was deeply loved by his family and a multitude of friends. He enjoyed traveling with Bonnie and watching his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren playing softball and football. He loved supporting the basketball program at Southwest Christian Academy where he was a huge cheerleader and greeted everyone. His favorite fellowship was his monthly retiree luncheon and his breakfast and lunch crew at Harvest Food in East End.
Granddad loved his church family where he was a faithful member of Ironton Baptist Church and a former member of Westside Baptist Church in Little Rock.
The family would like to recognize two very special members of our family. Joey Benardi was dad's favorite coffee drinking buddy. They drank coffee every afternoon for 22 years. Pam Williams was Dad's personal caretaker. Pam was like a daughter to Dad. Many times Dad would correct Pam like he would one of his own children. Pam and Daddy had a very special relationship.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, December 29, 2016 at Ironton Baptist Church, 14718 Ironton Cutoff, Little Rock, 72206 with Dr. Sydney Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Ironton Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 P.M., Wednesday, at Roller-Drummond Funeral Home, 10900 Interstate 30, Little Rock, AR 72209, (501)455-5800.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Arkansas Korean War Memorial Project, Butler Center for Arkansas Studies, 100 S. Rock Street, Little Rock, AR 72201, (501)320-5723.
Sorry to lose Billy Joe, classmate PBHS 48. Prayers for his family.
Chuck, Steve, Tim and Debbie, I am saddened by your loss but greatly encouraged by his life and the everyday testimony of his faith he lived out. It's been a long time since I last visited with your dad but will always remember his outgoing, and gregarious nature. You are all in my prayers.
Scott
