Carol B. Ottinger, 82, of Batesville, died Friday, October 28, 2016.

She was born to E. Guy and Pearl (McLendon) Ottinger on December 25, 1933 in Batesville, Arkansas.

She graduated from Batesville High School in 1951 then went to Arkansas College (now Lyon College) from 1954 to 1960. She then went to Oklahoma State University and received her Master's degree and Educational Doctorate degree in 1969. Carol took additional courses at Stanford University and Tulane University. She taught math at Crossett, Arkansas Junior High School; at Jonesboro, Arkansas High School; and in Claremore, Oklahoma and then began teaching at Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, Mississippi. Carol retired from there after 27 years as a Professor Emeritus.

She was a member of the Central Avenue United Methodist Church; and active in the United Methodist Women at local, district and conference levels. The professional organizations she was a member of include Mathematical Association of America, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and the American Mathematical Society.

Survivors include a number of cousins, especially Leora Ottinger Jeffery of Desha, Dr. Jerry (Connie) McSpadden of Huntington, Maryland; Joy (Bob) Buffalo of Little Rock; JeriLyn (Keith) Buckalew of Batesville; and Donna (Stan) May of Malvern.

Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 31, 2016 at Oaklawn Cemetery with Rev. Paul Seay officiating and under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville.

There will not be a visitation.

Carol and I were both lived in West Side and went to school together. Her mother was my teacher but I am not sure which grade. I think the third grade. She was Avery accomplished

I was Carol's hairdresser for several years. She was a wonderful lady who I always enjoyed seeing. She will be missed by many.
