Avner William McBride, 94, of Rosie, Arkansas died Friday, September 30, 2016, at White River Medical Center in Batesville.

Born November 26, 1921 in Rosie, Arkansas he was the son of Forrest Samuel McBride and Virginia Lee (Coker) McBride.

He was a World War II veteran and served in the Battle of the Bulge in Germany. He was a Chaffee Tank and M-8 armored car driver. He drove the first vehicle across the Ludendorff Bridge in Germany. He finished his time in Germany in the military police and aided in the arrests of Nazi war criminals. He also served as MP for the Nuremberg trials.

Avner was a talented stone mason for over 50 years. He laid stone of all kinds on many homes, schools and businesses in Arkansas and other states. He loved hunting and shared that with his children, grandchildren and other family members. He was a member of the Salado Baptist Church where he served as deacon and Sunday school teacher.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia (Doyle) McBride of Salado; three daughters, Judy Ferrell of Batesville, Carolyn Bower of Southside and Elaine Tarpley of Maple Springs; two brothers, Delvia McBride and Johnny McBride of Salado; one sister, Gertrude Moser of Sandtown; twelve grandchildren, Billy McBride, Kenny McBride, Stephen Gould, Josh Gould, Brandi Guilliams, Dorene Henley, Buddy Tarpley, Cyndi Brazil, LeeAnn Boozer, Barry McBride, Tommy McBride and Jeffery McBride; 34 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Norma Adrienne McBride; daughter, Norma Jane McBride; two sons, Sammy McBride and Sonny McBride; granddaughter, Karen McBride; two brothers, Archie McBride and Oran McBride; and a sister, Furby Lutner.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 3, 2016, at Salado Baptist Church in Rosie with Bro. Farrell Miller officiating.
Burial will be at Wyatt Cemetery in Rosie under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville.

Pallbearers are Billy McBride, Barry McBride, Kenny McBride, Ethan McBride, Stephen Gould, Tommy McBride, Jeffery McBride and Matt McBride. Honorary pallbearers are Buddy Tarpley, Caleb McBride, Colbe McBride, Josh Gould, Chase McBride, and Bradley McBride.
Visitation is from 2:00-4:00 Sunday, October 2, 2016, at Roller-Crouch Funeral Home.
