Hilda Strain Lewis departed this life on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at Mountain Home, Arkansas, at the age of 88. She was born to Lydia and John Strain on October 20, 1927 at Clarkridge, Arkansas. She married Troy Lewis on June 29, 1947 in Twin Falls, Idaho. He preceded her in death on November 18, 1997.
Hilda was a homemaker and a member of the Clarkridge Church of Christ, where she taught Bible classes for many years, usually the nursery class. She loved children and children loved her. Her greatest joy was serving God and caring for her family. She was the babysitter for her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many other children in the community. She was the most contented when she could be home, caring for her flowers, tending her lawn, writing poetry and reading. She also enjoyed being outdoors, nature, taking walks and horseback riding.
She is survived by two children: Larry Lewis of Eden , Idaho and Vicki (Jerry) Oels of Clarkridge, Arkansas; four grandsons: Courtney Lewis of Eden, Idaho, Shawn (Erin) Lewis of Issaquah, Washington, Logan (Karma) Lewis of Caldwell, Idaho and Rodney (Susan) Oels of Columbus, Kansas, ten great-grandchildren and five great- great-grandchildren. Also by two brothers-in-law: Truman (Margie) Lewis and Gordon (Judy) Lewis of Clarkridge, Arkansas, three sisters-in-law: Lanell Lewis-Long and Lois Lewis of Gainesville, Missouri and Mary Radtke of Rogers, Arkansas and a special friend and ''adopted daughter'' Sherri Ingle of Clarkridge, Arkansas and a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, step-father, Chester Roice, four sisters: Grace Roice, Florence Simpson, Ava Shoup and Katie Strain, and four brothers: Richard, Leroy, Otis and Henry Strain.
Funeral services will be at 2 pm on Sunday, September 25, 2016 at Clarkridge Church of Christ with Wayne Camp officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Roller Funeral Home. Memorials may be made in Hilda's honor to The Children's Home, 5515 Walcott Road, Paragould, Arkansas 72450.
