of Stoverville, AR
April 19, 1909 - August 25, 2016
Alma Parker, age 107, of Stoverville, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, August 25, 2016, at her home. She was born April 19, 1909, in Ava, Missouri, the daughter of Barney and Carrie (Turner) Mallonee. Her parents; her husband, Walter Parker; and two sons, Clarence Parker and Cletius Parker, preceded her in death.
She was a member of Mountain Springs Church. She loved to garden and can everything she grew. Alma worked hard all of her life, working in cotton fields in Arkansas and beet fields in Colorado, to name a few. She was recently recognized as the oldest living member of the Northern Cherokee Nation. She was given the name ''Yellow Rose'' by Chief Kenn Grey Elk on her 107th birthday. Alma was a great storyteller and the family would always ask for and be entertained by her lifelong stories.
Alma is survived by her daughters, Irene Deibert, Fayrene Hale, and Maxine Gibbins; 23 grandchildren; and an abundance of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was Saturday, August 27, 2016, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home, with Bro. Kenneth Clark officiating. Open visitation.
Interment was in Crossroads Cemetery in the Stoverville Community.
Pallbearers were Glen Parker, William Robbins, Charles Parker, Johnny Beaver, Jerry Parker and Bradley Clark.
Honorary pallbearers were John Robbins, Andrew Robbins, Wade Gibbons, Floyd Gibbons and Wayne Hale.
Aunt Alma was an older sister of my mother, Disie (Mallonee)(McCarroll) Anderson. When my mother passed away in 2001, I began visiting Aunt Alma more often. I enjoyed hearing the stories about my mother--which gave me considerable peace as I very much missed my mother several years after her death. Also I now have more photos and more stories for my genealogy project. While spending a weekend at Aunt Alma's, I recall when she (at about age 95) wanted me to have a good breakfast before I left to continue on my trip. I asked for only one egg, she cooked me three! Aunt Alma will be fondly remembered for that and her buttermilk biscuits that I recall as a child.
You all are in our thoughts and prayers at this time. With God's Love, God bless you all. Fred, Carolyn, and Donald Austin
