Mr. Arthur "Marion" Johnson, 80, of Jonesboro, passed away Sunday, August 7, 2016, at St. Bernards Medical Center. He was born December 8, 1935, at Bono, to Johnnie and Gladys Chapel Johnson. Marion was an active member of the Wood Street Assembly of God for over 30 years. He owned and operated restaurants in and around Jonesboro, and drove a catering truck to Jonesboro factories and jobsites. He had been a salesman for Norman Budget pack candy, and retired from Lance. He had served in the U.S. Army and National Guard.
He enjoyed sharing time with his family and friends, sharing stories and reminiscing about the "good ol' days" with others, watching old westerns, and riding around with his late wife, Birdie, and his dog, Snoopy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 54 years, Birdie Wagner Johnson; five brothers, and four sisters.
Survivors include his sister, Sharon (Raymond) Yakley, of Birmingham, Alabama; two sons, David Johnson of Jonesboro and Stephen Johnson of Carlsbad, New Mexico; one daughter, Naomi (Randal) Gibson of Jonesboro; grandchildren, Jamie (Lyndsey) Gonzalez, Valarie (Ben) Anceno, Ethan and Ariana Gibson, all of Jonesboro; Kassi Willis of Roswell, NM and Colton Willis of Carlsbad, NM; great-grandchildren, William Gonzalez Gibson, Jalyn Gonzalez and Tegan Gonzalez, all of Jonesboro; Saphrine Johnson and Josiah Mendoza of Roswell, NM; and his dog, Snoopy.
Visitation will be Wednesday, August 10, 6:00-8:00pm, at Wood Street Assembly of God Church, 1925 Wood Street, in Jonesboro. Funeral services will be Thursday, August 11, at 10:00am at Wood Street Assembly of God with Cass Ledbetter and Jim Wooley officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Cemetery, Bono.
Pallbearers will be David Johnson, Stephen Johnson, Jamie Gonzalez, Jason Henning, Aaron Murphy, Kevin Barber, Corey Wilson, and Daniel Painter.
