of Conway, AR

December 18, 1942 - July 23, 2016

Ernest Junior Dowdy , 73 years old, of Conway, Arkansas died Saturday July 23, 2016. He was of the Baptist Faith.
Junior was born Friday, December 18th, 1942. He was the 2nd child to Elvie Lester Dowdy and Bethel Mae (Holland) Dowdy of Gravesville, Arkansas.
He graduated from Quitman High School in Quitman, Arkansas in 1960. He was a long term resident of Conway, Arkansas. There was nothing in this life that he cherished more than his daughter, son in law, two grandchildren, and great grandson. He made sure to never miss any event that his grandson or granddaughter was involved in. He also enjoyed teaching his grandson everything he could about the outdoors. Junior was very artistic and a professional welder by trade. He was known as a straight shooter who loved to play cards, hunt and fish. He also enjoyed watching baseball and old westerns and to talk politics. If you ever asked Ernest what he needed, he would say ''just a few kind words.
He is survived by his daughter, Tena Renee Dowdy Van Pelt of Conway and son in law, Tony Lee Van Pelt who loved him as if he were his own father, his grandchildren Dustin Luke Van Pelt, and Shelbi Van Pelt of El Dorado, and Ragen LeAnn Van Pelt Reeves and Chris Reeves of Conway, and one great grandson, Gunner Lee Reeves of Conway, and his youngest brother, Dewayne Dowdy of Gravesville, and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his very faithful dog of 17 years, Kujoe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elvie and Bethel Dowdy and his brothers, N.H. Dowdy, L.B. Dowdy, and Johnny Dowdy.
There will be a celebration of his life at a later date. He will be greatly missed by his family and anyone who knew him. The memories of our dad, papaw, peepaw, brother and uncle will always be cherished.
