Joy Lee Sutherland Gunther, 88, of Batesville, died Tuesday, July 12, 2016 in Batesville.
She was born in Drasco, AR on May 17, 1928 to Orton B. Sutherland and Lura M. Liles Sutherland.
Joy was a member of the Business and Professional Women and Woman of the Year from 1987 '''' 1988. She was also in the Red Hat Society where she was the vice queen mother of the Foxy Ladies of White River 2005. She was also a past president of the American Legion Axillary. Joy had volunteered for over 1000 hours at White River Medical Center. She was in retail sales, enjoyed being in a book club, antiquing, and travelling.
She is survived by her son, Michael Wayne Wilson of Randolph , MA; daughter, Linda Wilson Bennett of Hughesville, MD ; stepdaughters, Linda Gunther Gallagher, Judith Gunther Shidaker, Kathy Gunther Gray all of Wilmington, OH; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Other survivors include her brother, Glenn Sutherland of Nixa, MO; and sister, Peggy Sutherland Thomey of Little Rock, AR.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Edwin Carey Wilson; and her second husband, Kermit Gunther.
A graveside service will be at 12:30 p.m. on Friday at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Cushman with Billy Henderson officiating under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home, Batesville.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.
