Luster Risley, age 94 of Harrison, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2016, at his home with his wife by his side. He was born December 21, 1921, in Peel, Arkansas, to Troy Benton and Garla (Barkheimer) Risley. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and three sisters.
Luster was a member of Northvale Baptist Church. He was a WWII veteran with the Army Ranger Wildcat 321st E Company and recipient of the Silver Star for Bravery. He married Lorene Arnold November 14, 1948, at New Hope Baptist Church in Omaha, Arkansas. He was a retired machinist for Duncan Parking Meter. He was also an avid turkey hunter as well as handcrafted turkey callers. He was a diehard Arkansas Razorback fan.
Luster is survived by his wife, Lorene, of the home; his daughters and son-in-law, Susan and Mike McLaughlin and Elaine Thompson; five grandchildren, Heather Neal, Adam McLaughlin, Nikole Jackson, Chance Thompson and Marcus Thompson; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation was Sunday at the Roller-Christeson Funeral Home.
Funeral services was Monday, July 18, 2016, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Cooper officiating.
Interment was in Maplewood Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Chance Thompson, Adam McLaughlin, Marcus Thompson, Dylan Jackson, Thomas Neal and Wade Jackson.
Honorary pallbearers were Colonel Mullins, Greg Scroggins, Tim Risley, Gary Risley, Jim Troy Risley, Alan Risley, Lester Evans, Keith Evans, Richie Arnold, Jerry Arnold, and Frank Arnold.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to House of Hope or Care and Share.
We weep not as those who have no hope.
WOW what a list of accomplishments. I am proud to be a part of a family that served bravely for our country. Now he gets to add angels wings to that silver star. Prayers for peace and comfort for all of you at this very difficult time.
