of Greenbrier, AR
April 15, 1943 - July 4, 2016
Wallace Carlton Burnett, 73 of Greenbrier, went home to be with his Lord, Monday, July 4, 2016. Born April 15, 1943 in Pleasant Valley community south of Wooster, he was the son of the late Unis and Viola Hankins Burnett.
Carlton worked for a short time at Ward Bus Company after graduating Greenbrier High School. He then went to work for Bernard Nabholz Construction. In 1971, he started his own company, Jericho, Inc. doing underground utility work. In the mid-1980s, he started a second company, Landex Corporation, which provided heavy equipment highway work for the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department. His company built many roads around the state. In his later years, he worked mostly in Faulkner County doing road and utility work for Conway Corporation in subdivisions developed by Rush-Hal.
His hobbies included clearing land, building roads, farming and anything involving a CAT dozer or John Deere tractor. He loved deer hunting and went on several successful elk hunting trips. He also enjoyed many fishing trips with his wife and friends. Carlton was satisfied just slowly trolling around in the boat but his competitive fishing buddy (his wife) was anxious to get to the other fishing holes. Their group of friends also made many Jeep trips in the Ozarks. He loved to travel-especially the trips that he and Sharon made to Colorado and Alaska.
Carlton was an active member of the Pleasant Valley Missionary Baptist Church and a member of the East Ford Masonic Lodge #327. His favorite Bible verse was Isaiah 41:10: Fear thou not; for I am with thee; be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee: yea I will help thee; yea I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. He had this verse on his phone and IPad and would read it and meditated on it many times a day. Carlton loved God and was very proud of his salvation as a teen.
Carlton was hardworking, honest, loving, kind, slow to anger and forgiving. He always kept his word. That was very important to him. The key phrases that guided his life were: 1) Two wrongs don't make a right. 2) To have a friend, you must be a friend. 3) Don't worry, be happy. To his family Carlton was strong, smart and patient. He even seemed indestructible. He was deeply loved, respected and admired by all of them.
Carlton was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Glenda Burnett; and his son, Wallace Carlton Burnett II (Bud). Survivors are his wife, Sharon Hardy Burnett; his son, James Burnett of Harriet, Arkansas; his daughters, Rebeka Burnett (Kristian) of Oslo, Norway and Alison Cardin of Little Rock; his step-children, Chad Reynolds of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Holly Keelin of Greenbrier; and nine grandchildren, James Burnett (Boe), Dakota Burnett, Taylor Reynolds, Morgan Colclasure, Meghan Colclasure, Chloe Cardin, Charlie Cardin, Jonathan Selnes Bognaes and Oscar Selnes Bognaes. He is also survived by two brothers, Eddie Burnett (Evelyn) and Gary Burnett (Rose), both of Greenbrier, as well as a host of extended family and friends.
Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00pm, Wednesday, July 6 at Pleasant Valley Missionary Baptist Church on HWY. 25, south of Wooster. Services will also be at the church at 10:00am, on Thursday, July 7 with Brother Dave Masterton and Brother Freddie Mark Wilcox officiating.
Pallbearers are Jerry Coney, Coy Garrett, John Clifton, Blake Lieblong, Nicky Mahan and Rusty Acre. Honorary pallbearers are Hal Crafton, Jim Hardy, Gene Whitley, Jay McConnell, Russell McKay and Terry Stone.
The family would like to thank Dr. John Smith, Dr. Carl Landberg, Dr. Sue Tsuda and all of their staffs along with the Conway Regional Doctors and nurses for all of their excellent care. The family would also like to thank all of their family, friends and area churches for all of the love and prayers during this time.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pleasant Valley Missionary Baptist Church, 6 East Pleasant Valley Road, Greenbrier, Arkansas 72058.

Sharon and Family,
The girls and I know that 'so sorry' are hollow words and of little comfort. You and Carlton were so good to us over the years. So thankful he and RMC met up at Miss Ann's for breakfast 25 years ago and more thankful that you called us to say, build your house on our hill. RMC loved him like a brother and always enjoyed when the jeep went by and you had a moment to stop. Love you much,
Tracy, Carli and McKenzi

Fought a fight against cancer that so many people never know what it takes out of you to keep smiling and never complain. He is in peace that he deserves. Remember all of the good times.
Sharon, Eddie, Gary, and families; I'm so sorry about Carlton. He worked so hard to get well, and fought cancer with a vengeance. I'm proud to say he is my first cousin and I always have loved all of you. May God bless you all with his comfort and some semblance of peace. It is very hard, but you can do it. I was planning to see him when you got settled at Bowman Road Hospice. I'm just sorry I didn't get the chance, but he, like my Leon struggled through all the treatments to get rid of cancer--and it just didn't happen for them. Maybe soon it will for others.
I HATE CANCER, and what it has done to so many families.
God bless, Linda.
