Hazel Estes, age 96, of Harrison, passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2016, in Harrison. Hazel was born in Searcy County, AR September 28, 1919, the daughter of Page and Martha (McKinney) McInturff. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elmer Estes, who passed away in 1971; a sister, Aneda Mills; and three brothers, Jay, Gene, and Andrew McInturff.

Hazel was an avid crocheter and loved to show off her many quilts and afghans that she made. She also was a terrific seamstress and did alterations. She even made a wedding dress. Hazel loved her church! She was a longtime member of and joined Union Baptist Church August 13, 1949. She was also known for her cooking. Her family remembers the many meals she prepared and how much she loved preparing those meals at Christmastime. Hazel loved to talk about the days when she worked at Dogpatch. She ran a small store there for ten years and had many fond memories of her working days.

Hazel is survived by her sons, James H. (Penne) Estes of Alpena and Eddie (Evelyn) Estes of Harrison; her granddaughters, Jeanna Tennyson and Jimmi Kircher; her great-grandson, John McBryde; her great- granddaughter, Casse Eastep; and her great-great-grandson, Wyatt Eastep. She is also survived by her dear friends, Ed and Sandy Johnson.

Funeral service was Monday, June 20, 2016, at Union Baptist Church in Harrison, Arkansas with Rev. Raymond Edwards officiating. Interment is at Elmwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Rodney Tennyson, John McBryde Jr., Ed Johnson, Charles Estes, Wayne Estes, and Rodney Branch.

Honorary pallbearers were I.W. Hudson, Joe Bill Dearing, the ladies of her Sunday School Class and the staff of Harrison Health and Rehabilitation.

So sorry to hear about your loss. Hazel was a good, Christian Lady.
I really enjoyed doing things with her, especially in WMU. I have
good memories of our trips. Lots of fun times. May God Comfort You.

My heart goes out to all of Hazel's family! She was the sweetest Lady & will be missed! She made my wedding dress 19 years ago & did an amazing job. I enjoyed knowing her & loved having her as my neighbor. My thoughts & prayers are with you all!!
