Sandra Joann Arnold

of Omaha, AR

October 28, 1937 - May 5, 2016

Sandra Joann Arnold, age 78, of Omaha, Arkansas, passed away peacefully at her home Thursday, May 5, 2016. The daughter of Floyd Oscar and Gladys (Ware) Curtis, Sandra was born October 28, 1937, in Omaha, Arkansas and was one of their four children. Preceding her in death were her parents, Floyd and Gladys Ware; and her three favorite uncles, Albert Ware, Van (Rip) Ware, and Lloyd (Wado) Ware.

Sandra graduated from Omaha High School in 1955. She was the longtime director of RSVP in Harrison, Arkansas. On January 1, 1982, Sandra married J.C. (Jake) Arnold. Sandra lived every day for her Lord and Savior and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church of Omaha. She thoroughly enjoyed singing in the choir with her church family on Sundays.

Affectionately known as "Mamaw" to her loved ones, her family and friends were of the utmost importance and we will all remember her for her many passions and hobbies. She was an avid reader, a history buff and loved to camp and enjoy her Creator's handiwork in the outdoors. She loved to fish, but would never eat "one of those slimy things." In the kitchen, she was renowned for her famous fried chicken and she made the most amazing turkey and dressing for her family on the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.

Highly competitive, Sandra was a fierce adversary for anyone who challenged her to a board game or a game of cards. Devoted to her sports teams, Sandra never missed an Arkansas Razorback or St. Louis Cardinals game. Later in life, her and Jake would travel across the U.S. watching and cheering on her grandchildren, much to the
chagrin of many an umpire and referee.

Surviving her is her sister, Charlotte Roberts and her husband John, of Omaha, Arkansas; her brothers, Bill Curtis and his wife Wileen and Alan Curtis and his wife Jimmy Lou, all of Omaha, Arkansas; her son, Ken Arnold, of Omaha, Arkansas; and her daughter, Julie Arroyo and her husband Chris, of Springfield, Missouri; three grandchildren; and several generations of nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

Memorial visitation was Sunday, May 8, 2016, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home in Harrison, AR.

The funeral service was Monday, May 9, 2016, New Hope Baptist Church in Omaha, AR.

Interment was in Omaha Methodist Cemetery.

Sandra would encourage all of us to build a stronger relationship with the Lord and would like to leave us with her favorite Bible verse from Proverbs 3: 5-6:

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths."
