I did not know her name was Rejoice. How beautiful and appropriate. I wonder if they named Mother after her?

My great Aunt Joy who was 99 years old passed early today. I was not shocked at her passing, and I do not grieve for her, as I know she wished to go on. She was the wife of my mother's uncle, Robert Morris. Uncle Bob died young, in his late 50's or early 60's of what then, no one really understood. He developed an Alzheimer like disease and it was early onset and he did not last long with it. Aunt Joy has lived alone all those years since then and been very independent. In the last 10 years or so she has been legally blind with Macular Degeneration and was almost deaf, but she still managed to live independently. Her son, my sweet cousin Bobby checked on her several times a day. Aunt Joy was a woman who in all my life I never heard complain about anything. My mom used to take us there as children all the time, and she had the softest sweetest voice. It was calming just to hear her speak. She was a wonderful seamstress. In all my years of knowing her, I have never heard a single person say a negative word about her.

I took my dad to see her a couple years ago when I was in Arkansas. They were neither one Morris by birth but married into the Morris family. My dad is 91, and he and Aunt Joy, were the oldest ones left living of that family. 2 of my mom's 7 siblings are still living, but Aunt Joy was the only one of her generation left. All of my moms aunts and uncles were gone long ago.I am glad I took that time. I knocked and knocked on her door and finally just walked in , careful to not scare her as I knew she was hard of hearing, and once she saw me she was able to know immediately who I was and was so happy to see us. Her mind remained sharp , as is my dads.

Just in the last few months she fell and broke her hip, and she asked people to pray she would pass during the surgery. She did not and I worried she might not be able to go back to her home, but after rehab she was able to with full time care givers with her. I cried when I learned this today ,not for her, but for the passing of a woman who truly made the world a better place, and for what the world will be like missing women like her.

My prayers to her children and their families and to all of my cousins who loved her.
I love you, CIssy and Family.
