of Subiaco, AR
December 15, 1938 - March 23, 2016
Philip H. Schneider peacefully left this life on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at 5:45 p.m.
Philip was born December 15, 1938 in Paris, Arkansas, to Eberhard Henry and Gertrude Mary (Ashour) Schneider.
Philip resided in Subiaco the entirety of his lifetime, with the exception of his time spent in service with the United States Navy. He was a graduate of Subiaco Academy in 1956. Philip entered the U.S. Naval Reserves on August 10, 1961 as a mechanic. Over a period of the next 6 years he served in various locations from California to Illinois. He ended his service as a Machinist's Mate Second Class on the USS James E. Kyes. Philip was presented with an honorable discharge from the U. S. Navy on August 9, 1967.
Philip was a very gifted mechanic and returned home to work alongside his father and brother, Kenny, in their family owned business for many years. He later acquired the business and continued to work with his brother until 1987. He then went to work for Subiaco Abbey where he worked in maintenance and then as the first lay dean for the Academy. Philip earned his retirement in 2005.
Philip loved being involved with his family as well as many outdoor activities and sports, especially baseball. He played himself for many years as a pitcher and then coached his son, Shane, as he pitched for his little league team. Philip inspired and changed the lives of many young men through his guidance and example of dedication. He continued his love of baseball for the last several years through his grandson, Chase. ''Papa'' Philip was so proud of Chase's left handed pitching ability, like his own, and he made every effort to attend as many games as possible. ''Papa'' also made a lasting impression with his love of the outdoors. Nothing brought him more joy than to hunt and fish alongside his friends, son, and grandson. Chase, Shane, and Papa could fish for hours without tiring.
Philip was preceded in death by his parents and two nephews, Daniel Frederick and Eric Schneider.
He will be greatly missed by those he leaves behind, including his wife of 47 years, Rose Marie (Schluterman) Schneider of Subiaco; his son, Shane Joseph Schneider of Subiaco; his daughter, Rebecca Kay (Schneider) Domon, her husband, Dr. Steven Domon, and one grandson, Chase Alexander Domon, all of Little Rock. He is survived as well by 4 sisters, Betty Frederick of Subiaco, Rosemary Hupp, of Sun City Center, Florida, Gina Schluterman, of Paris, and Margaret Eckelhoff, of Subiaco; 4 brothers, Alcuin Schneider of Marietta, Georgia, Kenny Schneider of Subiaco, William Schneider of Camden, and Mike Schneider of Tyler, Texas as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A rosary will be held Monday evening, March 28th, at 7:45 p.m. in Saint Benedict's Catholic Church. Funeral services will follow on Tuesday, March, 29th at 10:00 a.m. with Abbot Leonard Wangler, O.S.B officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the United States Navy Honor Guard will immediately follow the service in Saint Benedict's Cemetery under the direction of Roller Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Donnie Frederick, Randy Frederick, Dr. Keith Schluterman, Dr. Adam Schluterman, Alex Schluterman, and Tyler Schluterman.
Memorials may be made to Central Arkansas Rescue Effort for Animals (CARE)- Paws in Prison, PO Box 7604, Little Rock, Arkansas 72217-7604 or care@careforanimals.org.
