Phyllis Jean Carlisle

of Benton, AR

July 31, 1926 - January 11, 2016

Phyllis Jean Carlisle, age 89, of Benton, passed away Monday, January 11, 2016. She was born in Tull, Arkansas on July 31, 1926 to Alma and Robert Crowson, where she lived until 2014. Jean loved the Tull community and leaves behind many precious friends and relatives. She was a life-long member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church, serving as song leader for many years. Jean, Roberta Davis, Sadie Ashcraft, Gwen Burrow, and Murlene Tull organized a gospel quartet, the Tull Tones, and entertained with gusto for many years. She was a homemaker, deeply loving her family, her church, and her community. Jean had so many fond memories of her life with Ed as they raised their family and watched it grow, her life with her sisters and brother, and all the blessings this life had given her. She was the consummate wife, sister, and mother.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of thirty-nine years, Clarence Edward Carlisle, her great-grandchildren, Finlay Angus and Isla Ann MacLeod, and her sisters, Roberta Davis and Dolphine Keenum.

She is survived by her sons, Bruce Edward (Kathy) Carlisle, Robert Randall (Laura) Carlisle all of Benton; her grandchildren, Julia Ann (Adam) Crow of Little Rock, David Edward (Jeane) Carlisle of Benton, Rachel Carlisle (Rob) MacLeod of Cherry Hill, New Jersey, and Rebecca Carlisle (Reid) Beauchamp of Fayetteville; great-grandchildren, Davis Hale Crow, Anna Katherine Crow, and Cooper Edward Carlisle; sisters, Joan Burton and Carolyn Whitener of Benton, and one brother, Paul Crowson of Glenwood.

Funeral services will be held at Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Tull, led by Reverand Albert Marlar on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery in Tull with Chip Bosley, Ricky Burrow, Dr. Russell Burton, Victor Burton, Brent Davis, Mark Gillis, John Keenum, Neil Whitener, and Todd Whitener serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 12, 2016 in the chapel of Roller-Ballard Funeral Home in Benton (501-315-4047).

Jean's family extend a special note of appreciation to her nephew, Dr. Russell Burton, who had lovingly taken care of her through the years. Also, a special thanks to Joyce Brothers who was her caregiver and close friend. Thank you so much.

Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Old Folks Singing Committee, c/o Jeff Westbrook, 8750 M.I. Lane, Benton, AR 72015, Ebenezer United Methodist Church, C/O Jeff Westbrook, or a charity of your choice.
