of Clarksville, AR
April 11, 1942 - January 5, 2016
Our sweet, precious husband and father, Larry H. Morgan, of Clarksville, Arkansas passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2016.
He was born in Piggott, Arkansas on April 11, 1942 to the late Herman and Clara Morgan. He was preceded in death by three brothers (infant Danny Charles, Billy Bryan, Terry) and two sisters (infant Shirley Rae, Betty Rose).
Larry married his high school sweetheart, Judith Ann Edwards, on June 2, 1962 at First Baptist Church, Piggott. They briefly lived in St. Louis until he began working for Western Electric in Kansas City, Missouri. He joined the Arkansas National Guard while in Piggott, and became a U.S. Army reservist with the 325th General Hospital in Kansas City. In 1974 he moved his family to the Houston area where they raised their three daughters. Upon retirement from AT&T Lucent, Larry and Judi settled in Clarksville. Though married for over 53 years, they have been close since the ages of 13 and 15.
Larry gave his heart to Jesus when he was 10 years old. He served as a deacon at East Mount Zion Trinity Baptist Church and led music on Wednesday evenings. He is remembered by all ages for his friendly greeting each Sunday morning. He led the planning committee for the new church building, wanting more people to have a place to meet Jesus and study the Word of God. He served anywhere from cooking for special events, driving a van for church activities, singing in the choir, to visiting those in the hospital or in need at home.
Larry loved his wife, family, and friends. He enjoyed fishing the waters of Arkansas as well as salt water fishing in Mobile Bay and Florida. He appreciated nature, observing the stars and loving a meteor shower, or walking on a beach and collecting sea shells with Judi. He enjoyed hunting and being in the woods. Larry planted and cared for blueberry bushes, pear trees, apple and pecan trees. He had a beautiful bass voice and played the piano and saxophone.
Survivors include his wife Judi Morgan; three daughters, Cynthia Morgan, Larisa Neal (husband Keith), Stacy Peters (husband John); one grandson, Larry Neal; one brother, Jon Morgan; and his father-in-law C.C. Edwards.
With Judi's hand in his, Larry went to his heavenly home at 5:00 a.m. which was when he typically began his day. It seemed fitting that he would begin an early day in the full presence of His Lord and Savior. We miss his wonderful laugh and sweet smile.
A celebration of Larry Morgan's life will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 9, 2016 at East Mt Zion Trinity Baptist Church, 1572 County Road 4400 Clarksville, AR 72830. Visitation is Friday, January 8th, 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Roller-Cox Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Piggott, Arkansas at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests offerings to the EMZTBC building fund in his honor (c/o EMZTBC, PO Box 307 Clarksville, Arkansas 72830).
