Vera Overbey Young, age 94, of Fort Smith, passed away Tuesday, October 13, 2015. She was born on December 19, 1920 in Lamar, AR to the late Walton Lee Overbey and Mattie Lula Landthrip Overbey.
During WWII, Vera was employed as a seamstress at Woods Manufacturing. After marriage, she was a homemaker, and in later years, retired from Prince Drug after 15 years of service. Vera enjoyed cooking, keeping up with current events, and visiting with her many friends. She devoted her life to her family. She was privileged to live the last four years of her life with her sister, Vivian, in Clarksville, AR.
Vera is survived by one son, Gary Young (Becky) of Barling, AR, one daughter, Donna Pongratz (Tom) of Spring Hill, TN, and two sisters, Vivian King of Clarksville, AR and Mary DeVey of Newark, NY. She delighted in her three grandchildren, Brandon Young of Longview, TX, Phillip Pongratz of Kingsville, TX, and Sarah Pongratz of Spring Hill, TN, and one great-grandchild, Hudson Young of Longview, TX.
She is preceded in death by three brothers, Lee Overbey, Robert Overbey, and John Overbey.
Vera's wonderful life will be celebrated at Roller-Cox Funeral Home in Clarksville, AR on Saturday, October 17, 2015. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Mt..Airy Cemetery in Ludwig, AR.
