Hale Wyatt Allen, 89, of Batesville died peacefully on Tuesday, June 16, 2015.
Born in Melbourne, Arkansas on August 12, 1925, to Joseph Frank Allen and Martha Langston Allen, Hale spent many happy childhood days on the family farm in Bethesda. In 1943, he joined the United States Navy where he was commissioned to the USS Shelikoff where he served as a Signalman 3-c. He also served aboard the USS Curtis when it was attached. Hale served 31 months, 22 of which were spent in the Asiatic Pacific. After fighting in three major battles and surviving three typhoons, he said, ''I was ready to see that little spot on the map called Bethesda.'' He received four bronze stars during his service in the Navy.
Hale was member of the Ruddell Hill Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mrs. Ida Clouse Allen; a son, Kenny Allen and wife, Edie of Batesville; two grandchildren, Nicole Ellichman and husband, Dr. Jonathan Ellichman of Memphis, Tennessee and Brittney Carey and husband, Ryan of Marion, Arkansas. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Ella and Cross Alpe and Tyler and Aidan Carey; a brother, Jess Allen and wife Sally of Batesville; sisters-in-law, Leota Allen and Barbara Driskell, both of Batesville; beloved nieces and nephews, Larry Price, Becky Baber, Terry Price, Mike Allen, Sheri Harmon, Chris Allen, Vicki Reed, Kathy Ried and Camille Berry.
Hale was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Joe Allen and Johnny Allen.
Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 18, 2015, at Pleasant Valley Cemetery near Cushman with Rev. Stacy Reed officiating.
Pallbearers will be Mike Allen, Chris Allen, Logan Gleghorn, Roger Ried and James Franklin Baber.
Honorary pallbearers are Joe Swafford, Dr. Douglas Matthews, Larry Price, Brent Gleghorn, Terry Price, Rick Baber, Brad Langston and Michael Berry.
Visitation is from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at Roller-Crouch Funeral Home.

Hale was a very fine man. I wish there were more like him around. Kenny and family, I wish God's blessings on you and much sympathy is extended to all of you.

I have never known a better man in my life...what a friend he was.When my parents passed away he has by my side.I will miss him for the rest of my life....Death has stolen a very dear friend....
