James Phillip Stone, age 86, of Harrison Arkansas, passed from this life Saturday, June 13, 2015. The son of James Paul and Audry (Patton) Stone, Phillip was born September 24, 1928, in Harrison. Phillip was a lifelong resident of Boone and Marion counties. Along with his parents, Phillip was preceded in death by his sister, Velva (Stone) Freeman; and his wife, Jo Ellen (Roberts) Stone.

Phillip attended school in Pyatt and graduated high school from Bellefonte. He began working at a young age for his father in the timber and saw mill business. He and his wife, Jo Ellen, opened Stone Mill & Lumber Company in Harmon, Arkansas and grew the business to include another location in Berryville, Arkansas. After he retired from the lumber business he worked in real estate development.

Phillip loved the natural beauty of Arkansas and spent hours enjoying the scenery, wildflowers, and wildlife of the state. He shared his passion for the animals and the outdoors with his children and grandchildren. Phillip enjoyed and collected antique cars and was a member of Rusty Wheels Antique Engine Club. He was an active member of Bible Baptist Church in Burlington, Arkansas.

Survivors include his wife, Rebecca Stone, of Harrison; his daughters, Diana Adams and husband Henry of Berryville and Brenda Burrus and husband Charles of Harrison; his grandchildren, James Burrus and wife Marianne, Lauren Colclasure and husband Ronnie, Henry P. Adams and wife Bree , Matty Shelden and husband James and Kim Burrus, his great-grandchildren, Cash and Camilla Colclasure, Cooper and Zeeva Adams, Lola Burrus, and Shaylee Shelden. He is also survived by two nieces, Joy Freeman and Janet Auman, both of North Carolina.


Funeral service was Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at Roller-Christesen Funeral Home. The Reverend Bill Schaefer, along with Reverend Bruce Medley and James Burris officiated. Burial was in Maplewood Cemetery following the service.

Pallbearers included Charles Burrus, James Burrus, Henry Adams, Henry P. Adams, Ronnie Colclasure, James Shelden, Bruce Medley and Bo Medley.

Honorary pallbearers included Odean Patton and Irene Patton, members of Rusty Wheels Club, Phillip's former employees and his former classmates.
