Jewell Agnes Hoggard Heffington

of Enola,

April 14, 1918 - February 17, 2015

NOTICE: DUE TO WEATHER, SERVICES ARE CHANGED TO 3:00 PM TUESDAY.

Jewell Agnes Hoggard Heffington, age 96, passed away at Conway Regional Hospital on February 17, 2015. She was born in Holland (Enola), Arkansas, one of eight children, to the late Thomas Outler and Sara Myrtle Hoggard. Jewell was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Foy Wallace Heffington, all of her sisters and brothers: Elma Poe, Pauline Lasley, Reba Gadberry, Gretel Flocchini, Eura Mae (Tince) Pommer, Aubrey Hoggard and William Lester Hoggard.

Jewell graduated from Enola high school May 15, 1936. On May 10, 1946 she married Chief Petty Officer Foy Wallace Heffington in New Orleans, Louisiana. They were married sixty-two years.

Jewell said she enjoyed the opportunity to live in different places where Foy's Navy career took them. After Foy retired from the Navy, he worked in security for the Federal Reserve Bank in Little Rock. Both Jewell and Foy grew up in Enola. When Foy retired from the bank, they made the full circle and moved permanently back to their roots in Enola.

Jewell enjoyed knitting, sewing, quilting, bream fishing, gardening, and keeping her yard. She had an artistic touch; even her burn pile stack looked like a sculpture. She liked to watch basketball games, her favorite sport, but she also watched football. She enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune, and more often than not she ''won''. On Saturday nights it was fun to watch Larry's Country Diner with Jim and Carol. Jewell loved day trips with Terrell and Betty Ann and her annual Thanksgiving Dinner Trip to John and Judy's in New Boston, Texas. Jewell was a good domino player. She and Terrell took second place in a tournament at Enola community Center. It was around midnight when they accepted their prize. Jewell could also stay up until midnight listening to Tommie Frank and his friends make music in Mount Vernon.

Visiting Jay was always a priority of Jewell's to see how Jay was doing and to catch up on Heffington and Beene family news. Another of her priorities was attending church services at Enola Baptist Church.

Jewell loved children and it was reciprocated. Children would bypass everyone else and go directly to her. Jewell quietly enjoyed being surrounded and enveloped by friends and family

In 2014 at age ninety-six, Jewell renewed her driver's license for four more years. Also in 2014 she got her passport while entertaining the idea of going to France with Terrell and Betty Ann. The trip was only deterred because the flight would take too long.

Jewell is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

After Foy's death, Wanda gave Jewell a poem entitled, ''Your Spirit,'' that Wanda had previously written. The poem meant a lot to Jewell since it expressed her own feelings about losing Foy. Jewell was soothed and comforted when she read it.

YOUR SPIRIT
When I say goodnight in our lonely bed
to the pillow beside me where you lay your head,
I remember your words when first we met;
''I'll always be with you,'' and you are yet.
You speak to me in the whisper of a breeze
on a very still day, a rustle in the trees;
on the mountaintop, the piercing cry
of a red-tailed hawk calling on high;
the timid retreat of a graceful deer,
I feel your spirit and know you are near.
We have guardian angels, it must be true.
I hope for me the Great Spirit chose you.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 24, at 3:00 P.M. at Roller McNutt Funeral Home of Conway. Burial will follow at Heffington Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, February 22, at the funeral home.
