Robert Marvin (Bob) Wood age 83, went to be with our Lord and Savior Thursday, February 5, 2015. Bob was born July 7, 1931 in the St. Louis suburb of Webster Groves, Missouri to Floyd Edward Wood, Sr. and Gertrude Greene Wood. He graduated from Webster Groves High School and then served in the Army where he was trained as a military policeman and was sent to the Korean War.
Following his military service Bob returned stateside and first made Jonesboro his home while attending Arkansas State College. He earned a business degree with the class of 1960. Bob was a founding member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity and continued to support the ASU Chapter throughout the years. While in Jonesboro, Bob met the love of his life Peggy Ann Beck. They were wed August 27, 1961, resulting in a blessed 53 years of life together.
During his early business life, Bob and Peggy resided in the St Louis area where their two daughters Lisa and Jill were born. In 1977 they relocated permanently back to Jonesboro. Bob had desired to one day lead his own business and in Jonesboro he was able to use his determination and financial discipline to establish himself as a successful businessman. Bob centered his activities in homebuilding and real estate development. In later years he worked with his daughter Jill in his residential and commercial development and his son-in law Mark Ammerman in his investments. This fulfilled his lifelong dream of seeing his family as his successors.
Bob was an extremely active builder and developer in Northeast Arkansas. He was a member of the Northeast Arkansas Homebuilders Association where he served as president for several years. He served on the Metropolitan Area Planning Commission for the city of Jonesboro. He has also been a member of First United Methodist Church where he served on the Board of Trustees and was a member of the Men's Bible Class. Bob sought to introduce people to Jesus Christ throughout his later life and enjoyed giving his friends and special people copies of the classic devotional ''My Utmost for His Highest'' by Oswald Chambers. One of Bob's true gifts was his desire and ability to engage anyone in a friendly conversation. His application of that gift to spread the gospel has surely won many to his Lord Jesus.
Bob is survived by his Wife, Peggy Beck Wood of Jonesboro, brother Floyd Edward "Ed" Wood, Jr., of Wentzville, MO, two daughters, Lisa Wood Ammerman (Mark) of Houston, TX, Jill Wood Morris, of Bono, AR, five grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Bob took great pride in his grandchildren's education and was actively involved with their lives. His eldest granddaughter, Lauren, is an Honors student at Baylor University and presently is interning with a US Congressman and studying at American University in Washington DC. Granddaughter Meredith Ammerman is a freshman honors student majoring in Interior Design at Baylor. Grandson Nathan Ammerman is a sophomore honor student at Second Baptist School and is working toward his Eagle Scout achievement. Grandson Wyatt Morris is a high school sophomore honor student. He is an accomplished athlete in basketball and is a starting forward for Ridgefield Christian School. Bob's youngest, granddaughter Jordan Morris is a 6th grade honor roll student at Ridgefield and is a member of the robotics team.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd Edward Wood, Sr. and Gertrude Greene Wood.
Funeral services will be 10:00 am Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home, 1900 West Washington Avenue in Jonesboro with Rev. John Miles officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5-7 pm Monday, February 9, 2015 at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will include Jim Gillis, Michael Watkins, Mark Ammerman, Nathan Ammerman, Kevin Morris and Wyatt Morris. Honorary bearers will include Ed Wood, Tom Beck and Brandon Beck.
The family requests that lasting memorials be made to First United Methodist Church, Jonesboro, AR.

I met Bob in 2000 while looking at rental property for the American Red Cross. I would like to say, he was a warm and friendly gentleman. I always enjoyed visiting with Mr. Wood and very much appreciated his support of the Red Cross mission. May God bless his family.

Dear Lisa
I was looking through the Webster Kirkwood Times newspaper and noticed that your wonderful Dad had passed away. I just wanted to let you know that you have my sympathy. I remember your Dad helping Dennis Thompson, Scott (my brother) and us with a Go Cart out in front of your house and you having a very nasty fall off of the Go Cart. He was always willing to help us girls find the right box to make a wonderful house for the Barbie and Ken dolls we played with in your bedroom.
Please know that my parents, and Scott also send their sympathy as well.

I just now learned of the recent passing of one of Jonesboro's most active builder. developers. I met Bob back in the 1980's, when his daughter Lisa and I were attending Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, in Texas. Having known Bob for approximately 30 years, I can honestly say that even though we may not have always seen eye to eye, I had great respect for his intelligence and his disciplined approach to business.
I can further report with gladness how Bob shared with me in recent years that he came to a saving faith in Jesus Christ at the leading of his daughter Lisa Ammerman, and the witness of his wife Peggy, and daughter Jill Morris.
May the Lord welcome Bob into His everlasting, ever loving arms. And may the Lord be with Lisa, Jill, Peggy, and the entire Wood, Ammerman, Morris and Beck families, both now and in the days to come.

Dear Wood Family,
Sue and I were saddened to learn of Bob's passing. He was a remarkable man and will be remembered by all who knew him. I met Bob in St. Louis at a conference in 1977 and sat next to him just by coincidence. Before long, we realized we were both from Jonesboro and Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity Alumni from Arkansas State! Bob and I enjoyed remembering that meeting for decades afterward.
