Richard Daniel Barnes, age 73, of Omaha, was born September 11, 1941, to E. Hull and Ella (Leatherman) Barnes. He passed away Saturday, January 24, 2015, in his home near Omaha. Preceding him in death were his parents; his second ''Mom'', Beulah Parker Barnes; and his brother, Russell Barnes.
Richard was a bus driver for the Omaha School District and ran a fruit stand during the summer. He enjoyed visiting with local customers as well as the tourists that stopped. He was an avid fisherman. He had owned and operated Barnes Outpost, a boat repair shop. Tourists who turned into customers became lifelong friends. Richard was instrumental in starting the Omaha Bass Club and enjoyed many years of all night fishing as well as various fishing tournaments.
Richard is survived by two nephews, Johnny Barnes and wife Charlotte of Reeds Spring, Missouri and Bill Barnes and wife Linda of Cleburne, Texas; great-nephews, Kevin, Jim, and Jason and their families; his great-niece, Shelly Flett and her family; and many dear friends who will miss him greatly.
Visitation was held at Roller Christeson Funeral Home in Harrison Tuesday, January 27, 2015.
The funeral was Wednesday, January 28, 2015, with Rev. John Barnes officiating, at Roller Christeson Funeral Home followed by burial in Omaha Cemetery.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Richard has been a neighbor, friend, to so many here in Omaha. His name was known my many and he never met a stranger. he will be missed by all. May God Bless his family an second family

I've had the privilege of knowing my Uncle Richard all of my life, and even working with him all of one summer. During all of my 63 years I have not known of anyone that was more friendly or entertaining than Richard. There was always a story or two to be told, and many laughs to be had.
