Mrs. Lillian Inez (Saxton) Gifford, 99, of Spadra, passed away in Gladewater, TX. She was born July 14, 1915 to William Henry (Dickey) and Mary Willie Elmira (Booher) Saxton of Spadra.
Inez was a lifelong resident of Spadra and Johnson County and attended Hartman High School. She was a member of Spadra Methodist Church, often serving as Sunday School teacher. Inez belonged to the Clarksville Order of Eastern Star. She was a loving, kind, and adventurous woman, always ready to help others or learn something new. She and her family moved to California and Texas several times but always came home to Spadra. She was a Rosie the Riveter in the shipyards of California for a time. Inez loved working at various dress shops and groceries in town before finishing beauty school while in her fifties. She operated a shop in her home for 30 years. She enjoyed quilting both at home and with her friends at Spadra Methodist Church, also gardening, sewing, visiting with family and friends. She loved playing games of all kinds and worked crossword puzzles. She is greatly missed here but we are so happy that she has finally got to go home to be with all her loved ones that are waiting to welcome her.
Mrs. Gifford is preceded in death by her husband, John Edward Gifford; parents, brothers, Roy Spainhour, Barney Spainhour, Ralph Saxton; sisters, Ruth (Spainhour) McClaren, Lois (Saxton) Bland. Our sympathy is extended to the family.
Mrs. Inez and Billie Sue were such a blessing to the Spadra Methodist Church congregation, as well as, to me and my family.
We have lost another of the great ladies of the Spadra community, They are about all gone but never forgotten. The memories we have from Spadra will be with always. So sorry for your lose.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all the family. Mother always took Mrs Jean Keith and they went to the beauty shop on Fridays. That was the highpoint of their week. We loved Inez.BaBa Johnson
Inez was endowed with characteristics of beauty and dignity, and I was honored to call her friend.
May the words of Philippians 4:7 comfort your hearts: "And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."
