Ingrid Ann Hardin

of Little Rock, AR

August 3, 1948 - January 17, 2015

Ms. Ingrid Ann Hardin, 66, of Little Rock, died January 17, 2015. Though born with Down Syndrome, Ingrid never lacked in her ability to manipulate those around her, and that would include parents, Robert and Inga Hardin, and her nine siblings. With five older siblings and four that were younger, she enjoyed sharing in the activities and fun of her large family. Practical jokes were among her specialties.

Late teen and early adulthood years were spent at the Conway Human Development Center, and later, 23 joyous years were with her other family and ''home'' at Cottonwood Place, a Pathfinder sponsored Intermediate Care Facility in Morrilton, AR where she was among the first lucky residents to move in.

Ingrid loved music and enjoyed singing along. She was never without transistor radios, record players, cassette tapes, CDs and musical instruments that included harmonica, piano, and flutophone. She never tired of watching movies, especially animal movies, plus her favorite video, ''Home Alone.'' The suggestion of a party that included hot dogs, cokes, and pie was always welcomed.

Ingrid enjoyed an active life. Due to increasing problems related to dementia, in May 2014 she moved closer to her family in Little Rock where she died on Saturday from pneumonia secondary to advanced dementia.

She is survived by siblings: Roberta Feddersen and husband Bill, James Hardin, Judith Gibson, Nancy Ludwig and husband Jerry, Susan Hardin and husband Barry Haas, Rebecca Hardin and Butch Hinton, Nina Orsini and husband Jim, Melissa Woods and Eric Hardin. She was endeared to three nieces and five nephews and their children.

Ingrid's long-time friends and advocates, Nancy Erbach of Conway and Kay Thompson of Atkins, AR, are especially appreciated, and the family would also like to thank the many other caregivers at Cottonwood throughout the years. The family also thanks those who cared for Ingrid at Hickory Heights Long-Term Care and Rehab. in Little Rock, and Arkansas Hospice.

Funeral arrangements will be provided by Roller-Chenal Funeral Home, 13801 Chenal Parkway, Little Rock, Arkansas 72211, (501)224-8300. Visitation will be on Monday, January 19, 2015 from 5-7 P.M., and funeral service at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, January 20, 2015. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Little Rock Animal Village, 4500 Kramer Street, Little Rock, AR 72204 or Arkansas Down Syndrome Assn, 9800 Vinson Court, Little Rock, AR 72205.

Ingrid had a big and mischievous personality. I liked her very much when I met her, and I've so enjoyed the many stories about her antics and all the ways she reveled in the companionship, music, food and fun when she was with her big, loving family.

Jim and I are very sorry about her loss. And we're so admiring of the Hardin family for including her in every possible occasion, assuring she got the best care, and loving her so dearly. They gave her a very long and very happy life.

I never met Ms. Hardin, yet as a person with disabilities myself, I feel like I did. Also, reading her obituary I could tell she loved and was loved. My prayers and hugs go to your family and friends. Mike Thornton, Disability Advocate.

I knew Ingrid during the late 50's and early 60"s when she still lived at home on Crystal Valley Rd. As a neighbor kid who lived across the street, I often played in the Hardin's yard with Nina. Because I was only about 5 years old at the time, Ingrid was able to scoop me up in her arms and carry me like a baby. She loved to rub my crew-cut head. I can still picture her warm smile and hear the way she would repeat my name. I have always felt very good about the fact that Ingrid seemed to be really fond of me, and I will always treasure those memories. She was a loving soul. AKA to Ingrid as "Doug the Doodle Bug"

I am very sad to hear of Ingrid's passing. I worked with Ingrid at the Conway Human Development Center and then at Work Force (Faulkner County Day School) My favorite memory of Ingrid is that she would always have her suitcase packed ready to go visit family and how she would 'wave' her finger at you saying hello or goodbye. She will be missed.

The woods would be very silent if no birds sang except those birds who sang best. Ingrid used her talents to make her song and life a happier place and in my childhood memories, always with a smile on her face. Our family was better having known Ingrid and her song. Blessings to Ingrid's immediate family.
