After retirement he moved back to his home at Clarkridge on the place his grandparents homesteaded in 1890. He owned a trailer manufacturing business, worked in construction and later went into the produce business. The most important thing Johnny ever did was when he accepted Christ a his Savior and was baptized. He was excited about his Salvation, reading the Bible and especially interested in the little Freewill Baptist Church at Clarkridge where he attended as a child.

Johnny loved all kinds of fishing, in lakes, rivers, ponds, and deep sea fishing. He loved his grandchildren, gardening and was an avid ''storyteller.''

Our sincerest prayers for your comfort and healing. He was a most amazing friend and neighbor for the motorcycle shop. We were so blessed to be able to share tools, veggies and stories with him. Such a loving heart, I know the Heavenly choirs are rejoicing in the arrival of a loved brother in Christ! Blessings, Les and Patrice Wells.

Always enjoyed working for Johnny at his store and at the Farmer's Market. He was a good, honest man and really enjoyed having the best buys for the best vegetables in this area. I will never forget the time he left me in charge and wanted me to cook lunch for some guys doing some work for him while he was going on a vegetable run. He took me in and showed me where everything was to cook and then proceeded to show me how to cook a grilled cheese sandwich even though I was a graduate in culinary arts and had owned a restaurant. I just stood there and let him show me. Johnny had a great sense of humor and a zest for life.
