Carl Dennis Daniel

of Clarksville, AR

July 30, 1952 - September 28, 2014

Carl ''Dennis'' Daniel, 62, of Clarksville, AR, passed away on September 28th at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville.

He was born in Clarksville, AR on July 30th, 1952 to Aleitha Fivecoat Maxfield and Daniel Webster Daniel. He was a 1970 graduate of Clarksville High School and a 1975 graduate of Arkansas Tech University, with a B.S. in Wildlife Biology.

Dennis learned the value of hard work at an early age by picking local produce for area farmers. He then worked at Jack Daniel's Truck Stop during high school pumping gas and changing flats. He earned extra money by trapping and fishing on the Arkansas River. He was captain of the Clarksville Panther Football Team in 1969-70. Dennis was named All District defensive tackle 1969 and 1970 most valuable lineman in district 1-A South and Class A all State Defensive Tackle. Dennis went on to work for H.R. Pierce Lumber Co. through college and joined the US Forest Service in 1976.

Dennis retired home to Clarksville after serving 32 years with the US Forest Service in Arkansas, Mississippi, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, and Texas. He then joined the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) for four years as a regional biologist in AR. Dennis helped create and maintain numerous wildlife management areas. He played a pivotal role in making the NWTF a pioneer participant in the Forest Service's Land Stewardship Program. Dennis served as a liaison between the Forest Service and the NWTF for many years. In 2013, he was honored as the sole recipient of the Wayne Bailey Lifetime Achievement Award in Nashville, TN where he spoke on stage in front of hundreds at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center. He was an avid naturalist and conservationist-a pioneer in his field.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Judy Daniel; three daughters, Pam Daniel Ayers and husband Jeff and Alison Daniel, both of Clarksville; Amber Lazenby and husband Alex of Harlem, GA; one son, Brad Lowe and wife Kristen of Grovetown, GA; mother, Aleitha Fivecoat Maxfield of Altus; seven grandchildren, Eli Daniel Shook, Colton Davis, Lauren Davis, Ethan Ayers, and Noah Daniel, all of Clarksville; Savanna Lowe and Mason Lowe, both of Grovetown, GA. One sister, Susie Daniel, Freer, TX; two brothers, Danny Daniel, Harlingen, TX, and John H. Long wife Alicia, Texas City, TX., and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his father, Daniel Webster Daniel and two sisters, Benita Murray and Pamela Mitchell Burns.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 1st, from 6 8 p.m. at Roller Cox Funeral Home in Clarksville. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m., at Roller Cox funeral home chapel with bro. Tom Patton officiating. Burial to be in Carter Cemetery with Bob Jacobs, Cliff Sheerer, Tony Tooke, Frank Patton, Robert Mitchell, and Michael Davis serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the National Wild Turkey Federation. Arrangements are under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home (479) 754-2201. Judy & the rest of the family,
I was so saddened to hear the news of Dennis. I first knew Dennis through the NWTF here in AR & then he became a friend. I called on him several times to help me with his expertise on different tracts of land & he was always there. We got to talk a lot recently about our lives on a couple trips to the Buffalo River & to east AR. I have lots of great memories of Dennis. What an expert in his field.
Enjoy the new happy hunting grounds my friend and I look forward to seeing you again someday.
