Mildred C. Stitz

of Malvern, AR

April 18, 1928 - September 2, 2014

Mildred C. Stitz, 86, of Benton, formerly of Malvern, died Tuesday, September 2, 2014 after a brief illness.

She was born April 18, 1928 in Saginaw to Charles and Mamie Smith. Her childhood was spent in Social Hill before moving to California during World War II. She graduated from Luzinger High School in 1945 before moving back to Arkansas with her family later that year.

She worked in Little Rock from 1945 to 1948 for General Electric. It was during this time that she met and married her husband, Jim Stitz, on September 17, 1948 at First Baptist Church. They moved to Arkadelphia for Jim to attend Henderson State Teachers College on the GI Bill, where Jim graduated in 1951. Shortly after that, she and her infant son Charles moved to Malvern when Jim was deployed to Korea. She joined Third Baptist Church in 1953 and remained a member there until 1984 when she and Jim relocated to Monette, Arkansas.

While living in Malvern, she was a full-time housewife until her youngest child started school. She then worked for Bro. Hugh Owen as a secretary for Central Baptist Association until he retired, and then became a bookkeeper at North Malvern Lumber Company for many years.

She devoted her life to raising her family and serving her personal Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was very involved in church and school PTA activities during her years in Malvern. She was a Sunday School teacher, served on several outreach committees and was a member of the choir. She and Jim were active members of First Baptist Church in Monette from 1984 till 1989 when Jim retired.

Upon Jim's retirement, they moved to Benton where they joined First Baptist Church, enjoying the many church activities and the fellowship with friends.

Mildred and Jim were blessed with good health for many years which enabled them to travel extensively and create a legacy of memories for each of their grandchildren with their Mamaw and Papaw.

Shortly after Jim's death, Mildred became a resident of Mt. Carmel Assisted Living where she was doted on and pampered by their devoted staff. She resided there until her recent medical problems occurred. After a recent surgery, she relocated to Arbor Oaks Rehab and Nursing Facility, where the caring and professional staff earned the respect and gratitude of Mildred's family.

She is survived by her three children; Charles of Benton, Jim (Pat) of Hoover, AL, Melanie (Dan) White of Overland Park, KS; four grandchildren, Alisha (Matt) Camp of Chelsea, AL, Ryan Stitz of Hoover, AL, Daniel White of Kansas City, MO and Marissa White of Olathe, KS; and great-grandchild William Camp of Chelsea, AL. She is also survived by her sister, Wanda Williams of Donaldson and sister-in-law Barbara Smith of Magnet Cove and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-two years, Jim; brothers James, Fred and Wayne (Cotton) Smith and her parents.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Third Baptist Church of Malvern.

Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, September 5th at Roller-Ballard Funeral Home in Benton. Visitation in Malvern will be on Saturday, September 6th at Third Baptist Church from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. with the funeral service to follow. Burial will be in Rockport Cemetery.
