Rhonald MorrisI am a Veteran.

of Dallas, TX

November 17, 1935 - August 28, 2014

Rhonald (Ron) Morris died on August 28, 2014 at his home in Dallas, Texas. He is survived by Betty Morris, his wife of 55 years, their two sons, Ron D. and Robert J. (Jeff), two daughters-in-law, Debbie and Cathy, six grandchildren: Megan, Kyle, Gavin, James, Matt, and Caroline, and one great-grandchild, Dillon.
Ron was born to Jack and Jessie Morris on November 7, 1935 near DeQueen, Ark. His family was very poor with no electricity, running water or car. He began working at an early age, picking strawberries, cucumbers and cutting pulpwood. At age 15 Ron was working at the local creosote treating plant. He realized he had to go to college to be successful in life and escape poverty. He would have to earn the money himself since his family would not be able to help him. Ron worked summers and weekends saving all the money he could.
Ron graduated from DeQueen High School in 1953 and completed his BSIE degree requirements at the University or Arkansas in the summer of 1957, while working his way through college. Ron met Betty Douglas, a native of Mountain Home, while both were attending the U of A and they were married June 21, 1959 shortly after graduation.
Ron started his career with General Electric in New York. In 1962, shortly after their first child was born, they moved to Dallas where Ron worked for TI. TI provided Ron a scholarship to earn an MBA with Honors from SMU in 1966. Ron was the first in his family to earn a college degree, now there are 15 in the immediate family with more coming.
He has been a member of many academic and professional organizations including MENSA, Alpha Pi Mu, Beta Gamma Sigma, Financial Executives Institute, Registered Professional Engineer - Texas, Boy Scouts of America, YMCA, University of Arkansas Alumni - Life Member and Arkansas Academy of Industrial Engineers. In 2005, Ron received the University of Arkansas Outstanding Alumni Award and was elected to the U of A College of Engineering Hall of Fame in 2012.
Ron and Betty purchased Lyons Manufacturing Inc, in 1984, a small maker of concrete repair products. He introduced new products, production methods and entered new markets, growing the company into a national business, with the help of his two sons, who now own the company.
Ron and Betty endowed the Morris Scholarships, 10 at University of Arkansas, 2 at ASU - Mountain Home and 2 at Cossatot Community College. 100s of students were able to attend college and receive their degrees with the help of a Morris Scholarship. Ron and Betty delighted in the number of moving letters these students have sent them over the years.
In his life Ron was most proud of his wife, Betty, their family, and 55 wonderful years of marriage.

Please tell Betty I am so sorry for her loss. It was always a pleasure to visit with them both during my time at ASUMH. Their gift and support of students education was so appreciated. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
