Maurice Lestel LawsonI am a Veteran.

of Mobile, AL

January 15, 1914 - July 30, 2014

Maurice Lestel Lawson was born in Minco, Oklahoma, on January 15, 1914, and went to be with our Lord on July 30, 2014.

He was preceded in death by Lois Lee Lawson, his wife of 73 years. He is survived by three sons and their wives, Jimmie and Janie Lawson, Larry and Deborah Lawson, David and Nohemy Lawson; grandchildren Michal Parsley, John Kevin Lawson, Jeremy Lawson, Angie McPherson, Amy Lawson; and 12 great grandchildren.

Maurice attended Cameron State Junior College at Lawton, Oklahoma and later earned his B.S. and a master's degree in mathematics at Oklahoma State University (at that time Oklahoma A&M). After serving in the navy during WWII, he earned a Master of Science degree in physics at the University of Oklahoma in 1951. Following four years of teaching at Arkansas State University, Maurice came to Harding College in the fall of 1954. For approximately 15 years he was Harding's only physics teacher. He retired in 1982 after 28 years of service.

Maurice served for many years as an elder at the College Church of Christ, and worked extensively in the education program. After retirement he and Lois devoted countless hours to the His House ministry, for which they were jointly given the Harridan's Outstanding Community Service award in 2001. He was one of God's good men on the earth--faithful, unassuming, serving, and contented. As Lois declined in health during her last years, Maurice selflessly devoted himself to her needs, through which he deepened his own sweetness and grace.

The family would like to express deepest appreciation to long-term caregivers Jennifer Wortham and Cindy Wesley as well as to Ashley Young.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Maurice Lawson Endowed Scholarship Fund of Harding University.

Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, August 1, at Roller-Daniel Funeral Home, 411 East Race Avenue, Searcy. The Funeral Service is 10 AM Saturday, August 2, 2014 at the College Church of Christ, 712 East Race Avenue, also in Searcy.

I am always torn with the passing of a Christian friend. I rejoice in the fact that they are in paradise with a new incorruptible body and am in sorrow that the family has lost personal contact with a friend and loved one. In 1963 Mrs. Lawson was my 3rd grade teacher. In 1971 Mr. Lawson was my college physics teacher. I loved them both, and our families knew each other. I'm sure my mom and dad met them, rejoicing.

David, I barely knew your Dad, but your mother was my most favorite elementary teacher. It was so sweet to read how he cared for her. My heart and prayers are with you today.

Dear Lawson Family,
I just learned of your father's death this afternoon. Makes me sad to hear of his departure to Heaven, but know he has gained the victory for which he stove all these 100 years on earth. I visited with him last November and enjoyed talking with him of earlier days. Your parents, and you all, are very dear to our family. Please accept from me, as a representative of mom, who can't express her love very well anymore, our deepest love for you all! Heaven will be a joyous reunion for us all someday. God bless you. My prayers are with you.

May cherished memories of your loved one always be a source of comfort to you. One day soon, sickness and death will be eliminated forever - Isaiah 33:24; Revelation 21:3, 4; John 3:16. Please accept my sympathy.
