Ethel Northrup

of Clarksville, AR

July 20, 1913 - July 26, 2014

Ethel Northrup, 101 of Clarksville, died Saturday July 26, 2014 in Lamar Arkansas; Ethel was born in Rozetta, Illinois on July 20, 1913 to William and Mary (Cooke) Trowbridge.
Ethel lived her early years in Illinois and Iowa. In 1931, she married her first husband, Gene and had her son, John, the following year. In 1940, her husband died from injuries sustained in a car accident. Ethel worked very hard and made many sacrifices to provide for her 8 year old son.
In 1950, she married Carl Northrup and they moved to Clarksville in 1953, where they worked together building their upholstery business. In 1964, Ethel was widowed again when Carl died from heart problems. She continued the business as long as she was able to provide quality work for their customers. She later worked for the Kenner Boat Company and the Singer Company. In her retired years, she worked as a senior companion helping friends in need in the Clarksville community. She received many awards for her dedication to the people she cared for and worked with. Ethel suffered another loss when her only child died in 2002.
Ethel has been a member of Hays Chapel Methodist Church since 1964, playing both the piano and organ for Sunday services. She also accompanied the quartet to many locations around town. Her love of music has been a comfort for her and a passion that she loved to share.
Ethel is survived by three grandchildren, Brenda and Tim Mudd, Larry Foster and Lorie and Sam Blair; 5 great grandchildren and 8 great, great grandchildren. She will be great missed by her family and the many friends she shared her life with in Arkansas.
The family wishes to thank the caring staff of Arkansas Hospice, CCHR and JCHR.
Expressions of sympathy can be made to Arkansas Hospice or Hays Chapel in honor of Ethel.
Visitation will be 10:00- 11:00 a.m. at the church. Mrs. Northrup's service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 28, 2014 at the Hays Chapel Methodist Church with Mr. Jim Krohn officiating. Pallbearers will be friends and family.

My deepest sympathies to the family. I have known your (great) grandmother for most of my life. She will always hold a very special place in my heart. Please take solice in knowing that the life she lived on this earth, along with her commitment to Jesus Christ, there is no doubt that she is now the Lord's number one music and song conductress in Heaven today. Ms Northrup, you will be sorely missed by the ones of us left behind, but I also know the Lord and angels are celebrating your presence with them.
