of Mt. Juliet, TN
June 19, 1921 - February 11, 2014
Earlean Teeter Hegi, 92, went home to meet her Savior on Tuesday, February 11, 2014, at Summit Hospital in Hermitage, Tennessee. She was born on Crow Mountain (near Russellville, Arkansas) on June 19, 1921 to the late Bleve and Wretha (Weaver) Teeter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest F. Hegi, her parents, and two brothers, John Napoleon (J. N.) Teeter and Albert Elwood Teeter.
Widowed as a young woman, she dedicated her life to her two daughters, Lena Welch of Antioch, Tennessee, and Mary Bleve Shaw of Davie, Florida. She loved her extended family, including her sons-in-law, Steven W. Welch and Donald K. Shaw, and honorary son, David W. Welch of Smyrna, Tennessee. She treasured the time spent with her grandson, Brian, granddaughter, Sarah, grand-daughter-in-law, Yanice, and two great-grandchildren, Isabella and Sofia.
Earlean was a dedicated Christian who taught Sunday School classes for over 60 years. She was a long-time member of First Church of the Nazarene in Conway and was also instrumental in developing a church at the retirement community where she lived in Nashville, Tennessee.
A life-long Razorback fan, she graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1946 with a degree in Business Administration and also completed graduate work for a master's degree in Business.
For over 34 years, she worked for Farmers Home Administration (federal government). She was one of the first five women in the United States promoted to the position of assistant county supervisor at FmHA.
Her faith in God sustained her, and she often spoke of how God had brought her through difficult times. She frequently said, "Knowing the past, I don't fear the future." She enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting, working cryptograms, birdwatching, and holding her beloved cat, Angel. Friends and caregivers at Carrick Glen Assisted Living in Mount Juliet, Tennessee, where she resided before her death, often spoke of her sweet smile and sense of humor.
Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 14, 2014, at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2014, at Roller-McNutt, with the Rev. Everett Lybarger officiating. Burial will follow at Crestlawn Memorial Park.
Mary,
I just heard of your mother's passing. I am so sorry for your loss. She was always the nicest person...always smiling. I know how much she will be missed. Please know that I'm thinking of you during this time.
sorry for your loss she was a great lady
I'm so sorry for your loss! I have lost so many members of my family. Losing loved ones is overwhelmingly painful. One thing that brings me some comfort is what the Bible says at Isaiah 25:8 "He will swallow up death forever, and the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will wipe away the tears from all faces." We look to God through Jesus and his Kingdom to do this. My wife and I hope you find comfort as you endure your loss.
