Ernest Ray WrightI am a Veteran.

of Conway, AR

September 18, 1945 - January 11, 2014

Ernest Ray Wright, 68, of Conway, passed from this life on January 11, 2014, surrounded by family and friends. He was born in Conway, AR on September 18, 1945, to the late William T and Zelma (Clare) Wright.

Ernest truly loved people and there was seldom a place he traveled that he didn't meet someone he knew. He enjoyed the outdoors and spent much time playing golf, hunting, and fishing; but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Ernest took pride in his work and was fortunate to have a career he loved and one that fostered many great friendships. He worked for more than forty years in sales, with the majority of that time being at Polyvend, Inc. based in Conway and the remainder at Crane National Vendors based in St. Louis, MO.

He is survived by his children, Byron Wright of Orlando, FL., and Lance Wright (Monica) of Conway; and his grandson, Landon Wright of Conway.

He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Betty McCollum of Conway, Euel Wright (Thelma) of Falling Waters, WV, Billy J. Wright (Martha) of Conway, Sue Nixon (Harold ''H'') of Bishop, TX, Helen Mowrer of Searcy, Bobbie Palmer (Vernon) of Conway, Willene Mooningham (Tom) of Little Rock, Clara Brickler (David) of Maumelle, Linda May (Marion) of Conway, Jerry Wright (Karla) of Atlanta, GA, Judy Anderson (Bill) of Villa Park, CA and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Ernest is preceded in death by his mother and father.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Central Baptist Church, Conway with Brother Don Chandler officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Conway. Pallbearers will be Brian May, Gary Harlan, Mark Koone, Sam McKaskle, Henry Hargis, Andy McNeil, Jimmy Wilmore, and Tony (Wayne) Dammann. Visitation will be held at noon Wednesday prior to services at the church.

Dear family of Ernie,

Just wanted you all to know you are still in my thoughts and prayers. I did get to attend the visitation and spoke with Donna, Gary & Julie and kids and Ernie's sons. I was just so emotional actually being there. I worked with Ernie at Polyvend for about 8 years off and on thru college. He was truly one of a kind!! My desk was right outside of his office...he was a "card". But so genuine! I remember a day I had worn "lipstick" for the very first time (again I was in my early 20s)--- Ernie was the first that day to brag on how must more mature I looked that day! In your 20s you wanna look mature that's for sure so I kept on wearing that red lipstick. Really kind of felt like he was my "uncle" too! YOu will be missed greatly by many family and friends! RIP my dear friend!

It is so hard to pack my bags to go back to Arkansas today for celebration of Ernie's life. We have been blessed for so many years that all twelve of mother and daddy's dozen have lived long, wonderful lives. To be able to see their children get married, know the precious gift of being grandparents, seeing their grand babies get married and have babies of their own. Of course some of us "young chicks" still look forward to our grand babies getting married and starting their own families. I, for one, hope and pray that God grants me that privilege.

It hurts to know that Ernie didn't live to see Landon grow up and one day marry and have children of his own. God had a greater plan for him. A plan that we may never understand as we live with one of our dozen chicks missing.

The thing that has gotten me through the last two days is knowing Ernie is with mother and daddy, playing golf and flirting with all the pretty girls. He was always a lady's man and could charm the...
Well, I think you can finish that thought.

In Ernie's healthy years he loved coming out to California every couple of years for the vending machine convention in Anaheim. It became a prize for Ryan's friends to be the one that "chosen" to go visit Uncle Ernie at the convention center and return home with tons of candy and prizes from all the vending machines. In their words, "It was better than Halloween." So it wasn't surprising that in Villa Park Uncle Ernie became known as "The Candy Man!" Every year Ryan friends would ask, "Is the Candy Man coming to visit soon?"

That's just one of our happy memories...one we were sharing with Jamie and her mom as we celebrated Jamie's birthday Saturday. Little did we know that our Candy Man was gathering his candy together to share with all the kids in Heaven.

I was always Ernie's little sister and he loved to parade Bill, Ryan and me around introducing his little sister and her family to all his friends in town for the convention.
And his visit would never be complete until he and Ryan had their " fajita EatIng Contesr" at a local restaurant that served killer fajitas. He and Ryan always left the restaurant fat and happy.

I know we all have our own special memories with Ernie. He was a loving, generous man who knew everyone. I doubt that he ever met a stranger. He always loved to brag that ole governor Bill even called him Pearl. I have no reason to doubt him on that. With Ernie anything was possible.

From the young boy who sold so many newspapers that he won a trip to Europe and had his photo taken with the then young Carol Burnett to the hard loving (living) brother, uncle, friend that we all knew and loved...we celebrate his life and know our life is a little darker now without his vital spirit alive among us. But make no mistake, Ernie is alive and the image of health as he helps Saint Peter improve his game of golf and introduce him to all the newcomers.

May his passing be the glue that makes our family stronger and a solid dozen (less one) that Mother and Daddy always wanted. We have been so truly blessed and let's continue to pass those blessings down to the younger chicks. Life is good and that is the way Ernie would want us to remember it.

Thanks for letting me share with you... Love, Ernie's Little Sister

Uncle Ernie, I dreaded driving up the hill last night knowing you were not going to be here. This morning I took my coffee down to your cabin and visited with Lance. He had a fire going in the fireplace, your Christmas tree was lite up and the only thing missing was you. I know your spirit is still there, I could feel you. I will truly miss you my favorite uncle. I will always remember all the times you came to stay with mom and dad whom loved you like a son. Daddy always said he was closer to you than his own brother. My children and grandchildren always loved to see you, and always wanted to go to Ernie's cabin!! I will miss you, but I know you are in a better place. I hope you and Debbie are having a party as we are celebrating your life. I will love you forever. Pooky

My dear Uncle Ernie,
I will miss you more than you'll ever know. You have always been my favorite uncle and the one that made my memories of Arkansas so special. I was so sad coming up the hill and knowing I wouldn't see you waiting on the porch with a smile as big as "Texas". I know that you are in a better place looking down "seeing" everyone and everything for the first time in a long time! Tomorrow you'll see just how loved you were and how many lives you've touched. You truly were a precious and rare "pearl" to be treasured. Until we meet again...

I'm so sorry to hear of Ernie's passing. I had the distinct priviledge of working with Ernie for several years while he was with National Vendors. He was truly focused on his customers and considered each of them his extended family. You didn't have to be around Ernie long to realize just how much he loved his family. I felt like I personally knew each of his brothers, sisters and children by how much he spoke of them when we were together. We traveled 1000's of miles together talking about our respective families over the years. Although he has been out of the vending industry for several years I continue to have customers ask about Ernie "the Pearl" Wright. throughout the United States. He left a positive impression on all of those that he came into contact with. I'm grateful that I had the chance to get to know him as I did.

Although I knew Ernie since the 60's, he was one of these people that pop in and out of your life. He was always a "hoot" to be around while growing up as a teenager. Ernie & my ex were in the Army Reserves together, then years later we worked together at Polyvend for many years. After that I'd see him around and never once did he not recognize me & always made a point to say something. He was a genuine person that never met too many strangers! Rest in Peace Ernie, my friend!
