Uncle Fred was the best. He cared for everyone and especially his family. He came to see me play football in high school several times. A few times I never got on the field but he came anyway. I will always remember the long weekend that we spent in Bishop, California with Curtis, Burris, Stephen and Dave. What a great time. I wish we could have done the Cumberland Gap trip that Fred wanted to do last year. I miss him. God blessed us!

Fred's family, Dr. C. Fred Williams was one of UALR's treasures. My husband, Jan, and I were both fortunate to be able to work with Fred for over 30 years at UALR. He was one of a kind - generous with this time and wisdom, caring in his actions with colleagues and students, and a special person to all who knew him. He will be so missed. I hope that your warm memories will help you during this time. I am sorry we were in Oklahoma City and could not attend the service but I stopped and sent a prayer for my sweet friend at the time of the service. You will be in our hearts and prayers. Janet,
Although I send you a message on your phone yesterday, I wanted to write in the guestbook also. We were so sorry to hear about Fred. When I think of the first time I met Fred, I always think of Laura Beth, you , and GSFBC preschool. God put you both there and blessed you both as you spent your lives together serving God. We are praying for you and the family in the days and weeks ahead. May God give you peace and comfort and wisdom. Love you, Nancy and Truett

Janet, I am so sorry about Fred's passing. I want you to know that he was one of my very best friends in high school and that we also roomed together some at East Central. I have often thought about Fred since we went our separate ways even though and we haven't been in touch for years. Fred was one of the best baseball players I have ever known and we had a lot of fun playing baseball for the Tupelo Tigers. Will be thinking about all his family tomorrow.

Fred was somebody who took the time to be supportive of me when I was first starting out writing about race relations. He treated me with such dignity even though I wasn't an academic historian. I have never forgotten his kindness. I respected him enormously as a man and as a historian. He was the kind of guy you want your children to have as a teacher, no matter what he or she is teaching. I will truly miss him as will so many other people. A wonderful human being!

Janet,
I was so sorry to hear about Dr. Williams. He was one of the best professors I had, not to mention a terrific Sunday School teacher as well. He was one of the most knowledgeable people I ever met when it comes to Arkansas history. And he was definitely one of the most devoted Christians I've ever known. The angels are rejoicing.

Janet, you have our deepest sympathy. C. Fred, as we always referred to him out of his hearing, was an essential influence on my decision to return to academia, leading to my very satisfying college teaching career. I always admired his scholar’s mind, his skill in the classroom, and his graciousness to all. May you find comfort in the coming days from knowing his influence was considerable to so very many people. Know that we are holding you and your family in our hearts as you celebrate his life. Dr. Williams was a wonderful person. It was a true pleasure to have been a student of Dr.Williams at UALR. He helped shape my doctoral dissertation. He was alway supportive of our K-12 classroom teachers and personally assisted LRSD teachers into attending the UALR Evenings with History. He will be missed . I only hope to be the kind of teacher Dr. Williams was; he sat the benchmark.
