Edgar E. Johnston, age 69, of Haskell passed away Friday, July 5, 2013 at the Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock. He was born on September 9, 1943 in Ogdensburg, NY to the late J. Edgar and Marjorie Stevenson Johnston. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Jim Carlisle.
Ed had retired after working 33 years for Entergy. He also worked for H & R Block as a tax preparer. Ed grew up on a dairy farm, picked up the nickname ''Peanut'', and was a state wrestling champ at one time. He graduated from Louisiana Tech with an electrical engineering degree and was a communication specialist in the U.S. Air Force. Ed loved camping, Razorbacks football, country music and dancing, and spoiling his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Sue Johnston of Haskell; sons, Robert Joseph Johnston (Kay Lynn) of Whitehall, AR and Richard Johnston of Pine Bluff, AR; daughters, Dawn M. McNeice of Pine Bluff, Laurel E. Gunn (Zach) of Pangburn, AR, Tammy Akines (Arlin) of Star City, AR, and Becky Carlisle of Haskell, AR; sisters, Donna Sharland (Steve) of Ogdensburg, NY and Ellen Vigus (Richard) of Forest Hill, MD; niece, Lisa; nephew, Billy; grandchildren, Andy (Jane), Trina (Jeremy), Caitlin, Aaron, Maison, Adam and Noah; great grandchildren, Lina, Sara, and Taylor; great-great grandchildren, Zoey and Kiley, and many friends.
A memorial service will be held Sunday afternoon, July 7, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at his home, 402 Dodson Creek Road in Haskell officiated by Pastors Dennis Owens and Mike Brogen.
In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Ed's honor to the American Cancer Society, 901 North University Ave., Little Rock, AR 72207.
