January 21, 1919 - June 29, 2013

Louis Aaron Fite, 94, of Benton, passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2013. He was born in Bauxite, AR on January 21, 1919 to the late Lemmuel and Annie Brady Fite. He is also preceded in death by his wives; Katherine and Lois Fite, one brother; Charlie Fite and his wife Lois Brown, one sister; Kate Scott, one half sister; Sally Donham and her husband Will, and half brothers; John Fite, and Ben Fite and his wife Sarah Brown.

After spending his childhood in the New Hope Community as well as Mt. Olive, Louis joined the military and was able to see the world. He was a member of the 88th Infantry during WWII, traveling from Africa to Rome, and later Germany. He spent 175 days in a fox-hole, guarded prisoners in a train car, and led the first group of allies into Rome. He was proud of his military career, and more importantly was known as a ''True Son of The Confederacy''.

After serving his country he worked for years in California before retiring and returning to his home in Benton, Arkansas.

He is survived by one step-daughter; Gail Walkey (Richard) of Salem, V.A., grandchildren; Lisa Gardner and Jeremy Walkey, nieces; Yvonne Fite and Calestia Smyth, one nephew; Dwight Fite (Lu), and special friends; May Moody, Mary Smith, and Gloria Randall.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 2, at the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 3700 Mount Olive Road, Bauxite, AR. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Arkansas Hospice Foundation.

The family would like to thank the kind and caring staff at Saline Memorial Hospice for their love and care of Louis in the final days of his life.
