Michael Francis Schuncke, 85, died at Osceola Therapy and Living Center on Friday, February 1, 2013. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland on November 18, 1927 to parents George William and Helen Schuncke. He was a graduate of Mount St. Joseph's High School for boys and a graduate of the University of Maryland School of Engineering. He served in the United States Air Corp at the end of World War II. He came to Osceola in 1968 as an AG pilot and later became the Fixed Base Operator for the Osceola Airport. He started his own aerial application business and his own charter and rental business. He had his instructor license and taught flying. At the time, almost everyone that learned to fly, in this area, learned from Mike Schuncke.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Kate Thomason Schuncke, his daughters, Susan Schuncke Fraser of Fayetteville, North Carolina and Candace Schuncke of Sacramento, California, his step-son Joseph E. McCorkle of Russellville, Arkansas and his brother, Paul G. Schuncke of Potomac, Maryland, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son George William Schuncke, his sisters Peg Schuncke Nethken and Helen Marie Schuncke McKewen and his brother George William Schuncke, III.

As a kid, Mike would tell me it was the Red Baron calling when I picked up the phone......I will never forget that.
