Mr. William Irvin Burdine
August 13, 1935 - January 30, 2013
Mr. William Irvin Burdine
William Irvin Burdine, 77, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, January 30, 2013. He was born at home near Red Rock, Arkansas, August 13, 1935, to Russell Burdine, Sr. and Linda (Davis) Burdine.
William grew up and lived the majority of his life in Newton County, AR. He graduated from Deer High School in 1955. William married Betty Loucille Hefley May 6, 1955 at the old Baptist Church, Jasper AR. They were happily married for 57 years.
William was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jasper AR. He enjoyed most outdoor activities, especially deer hunting and training horses. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was very active for a number of years as a member of the Deer School Board. William will be remembered as a great storyteller of local historic folklore, and could verbally paint a picture for the audience that would rival the best “reality” shows of today. Some best-remembered family stories involved his time, between the ages of 11 to15, as the chauffer for his father when he was sheriff of Newton County in the 1940’s. Those stories started with the purchase of their first family car “AFTER” his father had been elected sheriff of Newton County. They took turns driving, as William at the age of 11, taught his father Russell to drive.
William was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Eugene Burdine and Clinton Burdine; his sister, Lela (Burdine) Kilgore; and his grandson, James Burdine.
Left to cherish William’s memory are his spouse, Loucille, of Harrison, AR; his sons, Bill Burdine of Pottsville, AR and Boyce Burdine of Hector, AR; his daughter, Mary Alice Burdine, of Jasper, AR; his grandchildren, Amy, Hannah, Russell, Jon, Nikki, Pam, Hope and Noah; his great-grandchildren, Lillie, Maddox, Laynee, Jackson and Jaymee; two brothers, Robert Burdine of Harrison, AR and Russell Burdine, Jr. of Rogers AR; two sisters, Alice (Burdine) Bryant of Deer, AR and Linda Lu (Burdine) Loyd of Marshfield, MO; and many extended family and friends.
Services were held at First Baptist Church, 401 East Hwy 7 North, Jasper, AR, February 4, 2013, with Devoe Campbell, David Faught, Blake Matthews and Don Rose officiating. Burial was at Mt. Judea Cemetery, Mt. Judea, AR. Visitation, with the family greeting friends and relatives, was at Roller- Christeson Funeral Home, Harrison, Arkansas, Sunday, February 3, 2013.
