William Clyde ''Bill'' LaRue, Jr., 87, of Bassett entered into rest Tuesday, January 15, 2013 in Jonesboro. Born June 23, 1925 in Dyess, Arkansas to the late William Clyde LaRue, Sr. and Mae Belle LaRue, he was the owner and operator of Bassett Garage and a WWII Navy Veteran. He was a member and Elder Emeritus of Bassett Presbyterian Church: installed as deacon in 1961, ruling elder in 1978 and became Elder Emeritus in May 2000, he also served as Building Chairman and Treasurer. Mr. LaRue was elected alderman when Bassett was incorporated in 1966, serving as Alderman and Mayor for a total of 20 years. He was also a former member of Rotary and Arkansas Pioneers and nominated for Who's Who in Arkansas in April 1974. He is survived by his wife of 67 Years: Vivien Berniece Brooks LaRue; two sons: Jerry L. LaRue (Kim) of Flippin and William Wayne LaRue (Julie) of Conway; three daughters: Vivien A McCullough (John) of Conway, Pam Whitecotton (Jerry) of Sierra Vista, AZ and Cindy Gayman (Mark) of Bassett; eleven grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren; two sisters: Mary Jane Nichols of Granite City, IL and Janice Molder of Jonesboro; two brothers: Richard LaRue of Trumann and Jerry David LaRue of Houston, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister: Jo Margaret McClelland and one brother: Oliver Wayne LaRue.
The family circle just got smaller with the passing of Bill and his sister Jo Margaret; both of whom were wonderful, Christian people. He was met at the river Jordan by a host of loved ones and friends. My condolences to Bernice and his children.
Mr. LaRue was a great man. To a wonderful family, my thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. I know you have many wonderful memories you will always cherish. With my love and sympathy.
