Sunny Fraleigh Red

of Benton, AR

August 7, 1921 - November 25, 2012

An amazing woman, Sunny Fraleigh Red, age 91, of Benton joined her Savior early Sunday morning November 25, 2012. She was born August 7, 1921 in North Little Rock. Sunny had the opportunity to celebrate this Thanksgiving with all five of her grandchildren and most of her 10 great-grandchildren. She had a full life well lived. She was a LPN who worked many years in the offices of Drs. Ashby, Hogue, and Thorn. She showed her love for people by her dedicated service to her church and community.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Willard Red; parents, Ann Lindsey (Fraleigh) and Ed Goose, and siblings, Rosanne Wheeler, Lindsey Fraleigh, and Charles Fraleigh.

She is survived by her sister Charlotte Tremor Ashcraft; daughters, Sue Red Bryant (Larry) and Linda Red Everett, and grandchildren Richard Larry "Trey" Bryant III, Craig Daniel Bryant, Brad Burleson Bryant, Renee Everett Steed, and Dwight Allen Everett.

In 1974 she helped organize Old Fashion Day which raises matching federal funds to benefit the Senior Adult Center. Sunny was appointed Director of the Saline County Senior Adult Center during the period when a bond issue was being proposed for the construction of a new building. She was instrumental in the passage of that bond issue. She served as the Director of the Center of Arkansas from 1976 to 1986. Sunny was named Outstanding Senior Adult Center Director for the State of Arkansas in 1982 and was crowned Queen of the 34th annual Old Fashion Day celebration in 2008. Mrs. Red was an Assistant State Director for AARP from 1986-1990. In 1992 she was Chairman of the 1st Annual Miles For Meals Walk. She was appointed to the Arkansas State Social Work Licensing Board and served from 1992-1998. Sunny was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Benton and a member of the T.E.L. Sunday School Class.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m November 27, 2012 at Selph Hall at First Baptist Church in Benton.

Funeral services will be conducted by Dr. Rick Grant at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at First Baptist Church with interment to follow at New Rosemont Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Tremor, Kevin Steed, Jim Wheeler, Gary Burris, Trey Bryant, Craig Bryant, Brad Bryant, Dwight Everett, and Robert Edwards.

My fonest & best memories of Ouachita is my time spent with Mama Red & Papa.Words fail to say what they have meant to me & my kids. They touched so many lives. The memorial service was a great tribute to a wonderful Christian lady. Sue & Linda we can't let this stop here-she would want us to continue.

Mrs. Red was what I would call a perfect patient. For the reason that she had a list of everything she needed done at one time whenever her caregiver was there. She never called out for anything, not because she was afraid to or didn't want to bother the staff but just simply because she didn't need anything. I was always greeted with a smile whenever I was graced with her presence, and showed the same respect in return. She has a wonderful family who i enjoyed getting to know throughout her visitations at SMH. I know she is on to bigger better things now, and is watching over each and everyone of us, as we wish she would.

Linda, my thoughts are with you. You and I made a few trips to Ridgewood to see our mom's, didn't we? My mom passed away in March, and Judy Smith's mom recently, now yours. We were all regulars at the NH. May God give you grace and peace. Brenda Lisenbey Haney

Ms. Sunny was truly an "Angel". Her beautiful smile will shine through all of us. I always addressed her as Ms. Sunny and everytime she would say "Just call me Sunny". No matter how bad she felt she always had a beautiful smile and a kind word. Our prayers are with the family. May God guide you all through the next few days and all the days after.
