Troy Lee Wolverton, 80, of Batesville died Friday, June 1, 2012 at NEA Baptist Hospital in Jonesboro. He was born October 22, 1931 in Carthage, Missouri and was the son of Charlie Thomas Wolverton and Lily Verdna Anderson Wolverton. He graduated from Dixie High School in Lake City, Arkansas in 1949. Troy was a US Army veteran having served in the Korean War. His career in the trucking industry spanned 43 years, having worked as a safety director for Gordons, Batesville Truck Line, Woodline Freight and he retired as safety director for Ronnie Dowdy Trucking in Batesville. Troy was former president of the Jaycees of Southaven, Mississippi and a member of the Arkansas Motor Carriers Association. He was a member of the Harrison Street Church of Christ in Batesville. Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Maye Murray Wolverton; two sons, Greg Wolverton and wife, Dena of Newark and Barry Wolverton and wife, Tammy of Weiner; three daughters, Rhonda Finnie and husband, Chris of Judsonia, Vicki Allison and husband, Jesse, of Hernando, Mississippi, and Venita Osborn and husband, Dick of Germantown, Tennessee; twelve grandchildren, Colton Wolverton, Jack King, Jesse King, Chase Kagen, Cody Wolverton, Taner Wolverton, Trista Thomas, Erica Finnie, Courtney Rotenberry, Lee Allison, Blake Allison, and Kelsey Allison; and four great-grandchildren, Keegan King, Raigen Wolverton, Emery Allison and Slayden Allison; a brother, Walter G. Wolverton of Memphis, Tennessee; and two sisters, Louise Coats of Memphis, and Lucille Neal and husband, Charles, also of Memphis; and his favorite dog, “Teddy Bear”, the poodle. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, John Wolverton, Earl Patrick and Burl Patrick; a sister, Lola Pearl Hopper; a grandchild, Derek Finnie and a great-grandchild, Blaire Kagen. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at the Harrison Street Church of Christ in Batesville with Steve Smith officiating. Music will be provided by Matt Lloyd. Burial will be at Forest Hill South Cemetery in Memphis, Tennessee under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville. Pallbearers are Gayle Collier, Collie Shaw, Tom German, Laddy Barber, Randy Taylor, Keith Davis, Cody Wolverton, Colton Wolverton, Lee Allison, Blake Allison, Chase Kagen, Taner Wolverton, Justin Rotenberry, Josh Thomas, and Jesse King. Honorary pallbearers are Phillip Lloyd, Dr. Jim Harbin, Robert Conyers, Dr. David Allen Nixon and the White River Medical Center Ambulatory Care Staff and Admission Staff. Visitation is from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Monday, June 4, 2012 at Roller-Crouch Funeral Home.
