Mrs. Opal Ward
Opal Delois Ward, of Jonesboro, departed from this life for her heavenly home on Wednesday, May 30, 2012. She was born on February 11, 1935 in Brookland to Roy D. and Mary Alice Nunn. Opal was a 1953 graduate of Dixie High School, a long-time member of Central Baptist Church and a retiree of Mercantile Bank.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her father and mother-in-law, Mike and Millie Ward; a brother, Robert Nunn, a sister-in-law, Myrlee Nunn; and three brother-in-laws, Marlin D. Jackson, Allen Reynolds and Doyle Ward.
Opal is survived by her loving and honorable husband of 56 years, John William Ward; daughter, Tina Hipp and fiancé Jerry Miller; daughter, Karen Clark and husband Rick; son John A. Ward and wife Melanie; grandsons, Andy and Tyler Hipp; granddaughters, Sydney Ward, Aubrey Defries, Alexis Tippitt and Angie Clark; brother, Bill Nunn; sisters, Betty Jackson, Naoma Timms and Geraldine Reynolds; brother-in-law, Billy Timms; sisters-in-law, Vera Nunn and Marguerite Ward; countless nieces and nephews; and special friends, Eulas and Virgie Dorton, and Emmett and Helen Slayton.
Visitation will be 5-8 pm Thursday at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home, 1900 West Washington Avenue in Jonesboro.
Funeral services will be 11 am Friday at the funeral home with Rick Clark and Mike Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will include Eulas Dorton, Emmett Slayton, Bob Parham, Kenny Waymon and grandsons, Andy and Tyler Hipp.
Honorary pallbearers will include the Agape Class and Caleb Mountain Climbers of Central Baptist Church.
Memorials can be made to either the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House or the Alzheimer’s Association.
