of Melbourne, AR

March 12, 1939 - September 3, 2010

Cecil Frederick Elrod, 71, of Melbourne, died Friday, September 3, 2010 at his home. He was born March 12, 1939, in Joiner, Arkansas to Roy Cecil Elrod and Hazel Crochran Elrod, who preceded him in death.

Cecil was retired from the United States Navy, after 22 years of service. While in the Navy, he served as an aviation mechanic, and served during the Vietnam War. After retiring from the Navy, he worked for Tops Shoes as a manager and sales person; he also was a partner in a bread distribution business. He was a member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church, where he served as an usher and did the puppet ministry for several years.

Cecil loved to shop for antiques, which he bought and sold, and he loved the history behind the antiques. He was a very honest and loyal man to all who knew him, loved his country and the United States Navy dearly, was devoted to his wife, and a true friend to many people.

He his survived by his wife, Della Mae Sneathern Elrod, a son: Denny Elrod of Melbourne, three brothers: Roy Elrod of Horseshoe Bend, Larry Elrod and Jerry Elrod both of Melbourne; and a sister, Sonja Rebecca Wilkins of Marked Tree, four grandchildren, Bo Elrod, Cecily Elrod, Jonah Elrod, and Logan Elrod; and many other relatives and friends.

A Memorial service will be Tuesday, September 7, 2010, at the Cornerstone Baptist Church, at 11:00 a.m. with Brother Elvis Sneathern and Brother Rick Brooks officiating.

Honorary pallbearers are Billy Cowan, Haywood Britt, Joe Ed Ashburn, Jerry Morris, Jimmy Bennett, W.C. Evans, Larry Lee, Joel Brown, and David Dickerson.

Cecil you will be so missed by family and friends. You always made your friends feel like family and we loved you so much. You were a father to me and Della a mother from the day I met you on the other side of the world. I will remember your sense of humor, your love of God, family and friends, and your life long service to our country. Until we meet again Cecil know that my family and I will never forget you.
