Chief,

I'm sorry to hear the news about your mother. I enjoyed taking care of her while she was in the ER that night. I wish you and your family the best. I just got the news and am saddened that I did not get to may my respects. I want to leave you with a memory of your mother. I can see where your dedication to public service comes from. One day during hydrant testing I flushed a plug near her house. The plug cleared within a minute so we shut it off. Mrs. Blankenship was quick to notify the Chief Sam concerned that her hydrant had not been flushed since water never flowed down the ditch in front of her house. Chief Sam got the story from me and informed me that my hydrant testing habits were wrong and I was not flowing water long enough. He said it would be in my best interest that I return and flush this plug for an appropritate amount of time and that Mrs. Blankenship new more about flushing hydrants than me a 2 year fire fighter at that time. I felt like I failed and was in trouble, being a new fire fighter everyone rode me kinda hard (until Randy Wright showed up a year later) I returned to flush the plug letting it flow for a good 5 minutes under the direct observation of Mrs. Blankenship from the front porch. After securing the caps she looked at me and smiled clasped her hands and gave me the two thumbs up, which made me laugh turning the incident into something that made me feel better about myself as a young fire fighter. I learned my first lesson about customer service that day.

Sincerely,

Joey and Family

To the family of Wanda Blankenship, she was a friend and good neighbor for several years on Couch St. I remember her wit and humor, she was so much fun to be around. She always told me the shade under my big tree looked so cool, no matter how hot it was out side, I always told her she was welcome to sit under the tree any time. She was a loving person, she loved her kids and grandkids and was very proud of each one.

I loved this woman named Wanda Blankenship, even tho we had lost touch for a time, we had talked on the phone was all, and I'm sorry I hadn't seen her. She was so good to me in 1991, when I had breast cancer, she helped my mother bath me and redress my surgery wounds, that was in March, and in June of 1991, my Mother passed away, and Wanda was there for me again, so to Donna, and the rest of her children I feel your pain. Love Ruth Grasse and family Donna, please call me when you can 315-2168
