Jesse Warren ''J. W. Tusome'' Magness, age 86, of Harrison, died Monday, June 1, 2009, at his home. He was born August 18, 1922, in McAlester, Oklahoma, the son of Lex and Lessie (Taylor) Magness. Mr. Magness was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of forty five years, Betty Jo (Stanley) Magness, of Harrison; a daughter, Susan Ann Magness, of Arvada, Colorado; a brother, Dale H. Magness, of Batesville, Arkansas; and a sister, Wanda Coffman, of Harrison.

J. W. was raised in Pyatt, Arkansas and lived most of his life in Baxter and Boone Counties. Known more by his initials J. W., or by his nickname ''Tusome'', he spent twenty plus years with the Missouri Pacific Railroad as a telegrapher and 50 years with Exxon as a commission agent, jobber, and independent distributor. He enjoyed interacting with the public in his business, fishing when he got the chance, and he was an avid quail and pheasant hunter. He enjoyed watching high school basketball games and was a regular fixture at North Arkansas College during tournament season.

J. W. Magness is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Okie Boyd, of Rogers, Arkansas; his sons and daughters-in-law, Benny and Janie Magness of Gassville, Arkansas, and Michael and Cindy Magness and Mitch and Teresa Magness, all of Harrison; and his brother, Paul Magness, of Siloam Springs, Arkansas.

J. W. is also survived by a special love and best friend, Pauline Coles of Harrison, and her son, Doug Coles of Memphis, Tennessee; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends throughout the community.
