of Mountain View,
September 13, 1926 - January 21, 2008
Harold Norman Cartwright.
After a courageous battle with lung cancer, Harry passed away peacefully in his home on January 21, 2008. Born September 13, 1926 in Thebes, Illinois to Benjamin S. and Thelma (Van Duzee) Cartwright. Married to Iris Louella Jackson (Lucy) on July 10, 1951 in Hot Springs, Arkansas, Harry was a nearly lifelong resident of Rockford, Illinois, moving there with his family in 1939 until 2006. He was a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Division in World War II, A 32nd degree mason, a volunteer election judge for 12 yrs, past president of the Rock River Valley Radio Club, Ham radio operator (WB9PBO) and family man. He is survived by his wife,Lucy Cartwright; his two children: Mike Cartwright and Penny (Bill) Cash, and his 6 grandchildren: Jeremy (Tracy) Cartwright, Beth (Joe) Litteral, Rhema (Kent) Holliston, Caleb Cash, Chelsea Cartwright and Meredith Cartwright, and his 3 Great Grandchildren, Ambur Litteral, Brooke Litteral, and Simon Cartwright.
Harry worked briefly for Sundstrand and then moved to National Lock as a Journeyman machinist. He spent 29.5 years at National lock and was left in the lurch when National Lock left Rockford as a cost cutting measure. He was an avid photographer and consistently produced striking imagery. Learning radio theory while in the Army, he augmented his income as a part time radio/TV repairman for Johnson-Guler.
Harry enjoyed debate and was known for his often cutting political commentary. He recently retired to Mountain View Arkansas and enjoyed his last days watching nature from the porch of the cabin that he shared with his wife of over 50 years. Harry was a member of the ''greatest generation'' and will be missed by all.
Services are 2 p.m., January 25, 2008 at Roller Coffman Chapel, Mountain View with interment in Norricks Chapel Cemetery, Mountain View. Mr. Cartwright's remains were accorded Masonic Rites and Military Honors.
