Ethel Martin, 97, of Batesville died Friday, June 29, 2007 in Batesville. Born at Cushman, Arkansas, on October 4, 1909, she was the daughter of George Tosh and Virginia Sue Thompson Tosh.
She was a homemaker who loved to cook for her family and friends. She had a tradition of cooking supper for her entire family every Sunday night, a tradition that lasted for 50 years. She also loved to work in her garden, where she raised vegetables and flowers (roses) and enjoyed giving most of what she grew away to family and friends.
She was a member of the Ruddell Hill Baptist Church and had attended services there since the very first Sunday service was held, and was one of the earliest members of the church. She was a loving Christian woman who loved the Lord and strived to be an example for others. She was very passionate about taking care of her family and friends. She has baby-sat hundreds of children over the years and has influenced their lives with her Christian principles.
She is survived by 2 sons, Norman Martin and his wife Jean, Harlon Martin and his wife Shirley, 1 daughter, Janice Price and her husband Larry, all of Batesville, 6 Grandchildren, Vicki Jones of Batesville, Steve Martin of Eureka, Missouri, Laura Anderson of Batesville, Kim Gleghorn of Batesville, Amy Caplinger of Jonesboro, and Karen Langston of Batesville, 10 Great Grandchildren, Jennifer and Jeff Jones, Autumn and Joe Martin, Logan and Claire Gleghorn, Katelyn Langston, Marley Anderson, Stone and Olivia Caplinger, many nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Virginia Sue Tosh, her Husband of 43 years, Winfred Martin, an infant son, 5 Brothers and 3 Sisters.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at 2:00 p.m., at the Ruddell Hill Baptist Church, with Brother Alan Brown and Brother Jim Black officiating. Burial will follow at the Campground Cemetery in Bethesda. Visitation will be Monday, July 2, 2007, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Roller-Crouch Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are V.L. Taylor, Ivan Wood, Freddie Russell, Jeff Jones, Bobby Davis, Greg Taylor, Jerry Miller and Ronnie Sweet. Honorary Pallbearers are Gary Leonard, Dr. Bill Waldrip, Employees of Woodlawn Nursing Home, Ronnie Painter, Bill Coop and James Reves.
