Dear Family of Reba Nelson, I am sorry for your loss. Reba is special to me in a unique way. Her mother, Martha (Bursham) Rowland Clem, is the first cousin of my great grandmother. I spent many years researching the ancestry (and more recently descendants) of the Burshams. (The Bursham name has also been spelled "Bursheim" and originates from the Norwegian farm name - Borsheim.) I have copies of the baptismal records, etc. for Martha, her father, her aunts & uncles, her grandfather, and great aunts & uncles. Reba's mother, Martha, was born in South Dakota. Martha's mother died in 1895 when she was young, and she & her 7 siblings went to live with different families. It has been a long journey (undertaken by another relative and I) to find out what became of all the children. We were very lucky to find Martha -- so far from South Dakota -- in Arkansas. We learned of Martha's first husband George Rowland, their three daughters, and Martha's second husband, M.F. Clem. We hoped to find additional living relatives in Martha's branch. It seemed that Reba was the only surviving daughter, so we attempted to locate her. On Reba's mother's death certificate, Reba is listed as the informant. We misread the handwriting of Reba's surname to be Wilson -- and came up empty when trying to search for her. Recently, we received a record of a Reba Wilson, born in 1914, and were disappointed again at not finding the right Reba. This morning, before giving up on further searching for her -- I decided to take one more look at Reba's name on her mother's death certificate. I realized that the handwritten surname seemed more like "Nelson" than Wilson. After having no luck for months hunting by the surname of Wilson, it only took a few minutes of online checking to find the right Reba once I had her correct surname. I wish we had found Reba prior to her death, but it is wonderful to have found out about her family at last! If anyone is interested, feel free to e-mail. I would love to hear from you. Martha Hicks
