Ritta Mae Talley

of Batesville, AR

November 21, 1936 - February 5, 2017

Ritta Mae (Turner) Talley, 80, of Batesville passed away in her sleep on Sunday, February 5, 2017. She was born on November 21, 1936 just outside Batesville.

A five-foot dynamo, Ritta loved to work. Over the course of her life she picked cotton, checked groceries, counted money at banks, worked in factories, and helped people find just the right cosmetics or gifts or cards. Dedicated and tireless, she helped employers, co-workers, and customers. And they all loved her.

One day, walking down Main Street in Batesville, a cute guy yelled at her from a passing car. One thing led to another and for the next 58 years, Ritta and Gerald were an item. Through lean years, sweet years, and three kids, they squabbled and laughed through life. Ritta bought Gerald dapper suits. Gerald bought Ritta cute dresses. And he loved her.

Ritta fiercely loved and protected her kids. She loved her friends and held them for a lifetime. She loved breakfast. She loved to play cards and bid high. She loved candy, particularly M&Ms and Butterfingers, and offered chocolate to everyone. We called her Ritta, Sis, Sister, Aunt Ritta, Mom, and Mimi. And we all loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Winnie Armita (Nothen) Hodge and Herman Dorr Turner; her step-father, Nathaniel Verdell Hodge; her beloved husband, Gerald Talley, and her brother, Herman Turner.

She is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Bufford (husband, Lynn) of Pangburn; sons, Terry Talley (wife, Michelle) of Conway, and Joey Talley (fiancée, Brandy Hall) of Batesville; brother, Kenneth Turner (wife, Shirley) of Batesville; two sisters-in-laws, Bea Turner of Batesville and Sarah Thompson of West Memphis; brother-in-law, Joe Talley (wife, Jacque) of Lawton; six grandchildren, David ''Drew'' Talley (wife, Kimmy) of Fort Worth, Joshua Talley of Sherwood, Sara Talley of Sherwood, Ethan Talley of Conway, Joseph ''Ben'' Bufford of Pangburn, and Sydney Talley of Conway; one great-grandchild, Adelayde; many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Pallbearers will be Bob Alkire, Kenny Covington, Dean Wallis, Dewey Ghent, Winford Williams, and Roger Harris.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, February 10, 2017, with Joe Clements officiating at Roller-Crouch Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery in Batesville.

Visitation will be from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Friday at the funeral home.
