Mary Verna Lea Lamons Clark, 85, of Hutchinson Mountain passed away Friday, July 29, 2016, at Woodlawn Heights Nursing Center.

She was born December 20, 1930, at Hutchinson to Docia Hail Evans Lamons and Lester Lamons.

Verna Lea owned and operated Verna Lea's grocery, worked in restaurants, was a cook at Camp Tahkodah, worked for Thriftway Grocery, and cleaned houses for a living. She was one of the founding members of the Hutchinson Mountain Community Center and organizer of the monthly fish fry. She enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing, and caring for her cows, chickens, and many other farm animals.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters; one brother; and her husband, George Verness Clark.

Survivors include a son, Dale Clark (Bettie) of Pleasant Plains; a daughter, Karen Collins (Mike) of Batesville; a brother, Denver Lamons of Pleasant Plains; a sister-in-law, Marie Barber of Southside; five grandchildren, Joshua Clark, Jacob Clark, Jesse Clark, Sarah Collins, and Keith Collins; five great-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren.

She was a member of the Hutchinson Mountain Church of Christ and most recently attended the Harrison Street Church of Christ.

Pallbearers will be Mickey Lewis, Beau Lamons, Joshua Clark, Jacob Clark, Jesse Clark, and Keith Collins. Honorary pallbearers are the staff of White River Medical Center and Woodlawn Heights Nursing Center.

Services will be directed by Tom German. The song leader will be Steve Smith.

Visitation will be from 12:00-2:00 p.m. Monday, August 1, 2016, at the Hutchinson Mountain Church of Christ with the funeral following at 2:00 p.m.

Burial will be in the Palestine Cemetery adjacent to the church under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville.
